New features in Chessbase 12

You can use the Chessbase Cloud with more than one board.

More interesting is the DeepAnalyse feature. It looks like IDeA !

And Chessbase 12 supports now 64bit. WOW !

http://www.topschach.de/chessbase-megapaket-p-2355.html

A big step forward......

Sorry, can you translate a bit more into English?

How does DeepAnalyse feature look like Idea?

64 bit would be nice!

Can one do a simple upgrade from CB 11 to 12.

EDIT
Ummm...nevermind: http://www.chess2u.com/t6459-chessbase-12

Easily the biggest step forward for Chessbase in...well, a VERY long time. :-)

Massive step forward...but at a high price.

When you discount fior '1 year playchess.com Premium membership' it becomes more reasonable.

Shaun

(Well thats one of my son's birthday/christmas presents...)
Parent - - By leavenfish (***) [us] Date 2012-11-03 22:32
and of couse if you already have CB 11 and get it for the normal price of an upgrade, all the better!
Parent - By Shaun (****) [gb] Date 2012-11-04 10:05
agreed

I don't remember free membership with 11 (I bought the download version for my son - his coach is used to CB).

Perhaps this is all they mean by 'deep analysis'...it's an old feature...not a bad one...just not quite what I had hoped for. Oh well, my CB 12 should arrive Tuesday. I'll see then.

It seems like another good tool for seeding IDeA.

Chessbase + IDeA .... WOW JUST WOW

So, does anyone have any idea of just what this 'improved deep analysis' is?

The program endlessly analyzes a position and generates an analysis tree for the best candidate moves and replies. This tree changes dynamically as with time weaker variations are dropped. This represents a considerable development compared to the deep position analysis in Fritz.

doesn't tell me much. Is it something like the old version where a giant tree of analysis is displayed...constantly changing? I seem to remember that...or maybe it was MChess Pro or some other pogram.
Parent - - By leavenfish (***) [us] Date 2012-11-24 17:14
....well, I've pre-ordered, so we will see.
Parent - - By nimzo5 (**) [us] Date 2012-11-24 21:29
I am waiting to see what upgrade price they will offer. It does look like the most compelling CB since maybe 8?
Parent - - By leavenfish (***) [us] Date 2012-11-25 06:45
Waiting? I'm seeing it everywhere online. I think I paid $95-$97 or some such.

I have a feeling this is the second part of what Kasparov called revolutionary as opposed to evolutionary when doing the promo for Fritz 13 and it's features...they probably clued him in as to how some of its features were being incorporated into CB 12.
Parent - - By nimzo5 (**) [us] Date 2012-11-25 15:43
I usually buy directly from CB.
Parent - - By tigershark (**) Date 2012-12-01 10:02
I just bought the download version (much cheaper).  It's excellent - a real improvement on my old chessbase 9
Parent - By tigershark (**) Date 2012-12-01 10:51
Can someone explain whether I need both tablebases (I have) and gaviota tablebases inside Chessbase? (Chessbase 12 supports both)

I understand the Gaviota are quicker but in chessbase when you are analysing do you really need both?
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) [nl] Date 2013-01-11 20:43
Not sure if it was posted before, but seems chessbase now even keeps a changelog of the changes. wow ;-)
The fixes in the 5 updates SP12 had so far:

CB 12.5 (Spanish Release, Dutch Release, Service Pack)
  - 64Bit only: Fritz could not be loaded as default kibitzer if it was automatically selected by the program.
  - Publish games on internet didn't display umlauts correctly.
  - Publish games on internet: Optional local HTML file instead of one-click-publication to www.viewchess.com.
  - Column Notation in game lists was not always displayed correctly.
  - Parts of the player search dialog in the player encyclopedia where inactive.
  - Adding a variation of a game to the repertoire could mess up the game, even if the function was cancelled.
  - Game counting in theme keys always showed 0.
  - Deletion of all text annotations added to context menu.
  - Crash in Load Next Game (F11) in broadcast. (F11 is not available in this window.)
  - Contract dialog for cloud engines smaller to save screen real estate.
  - For more than one window of a type (e.g. multiple boards), each window position is now stored individually.
  - With a second monitor on the left side of the desktop, the window position was not saved correctly.
  - On a second monitor to the left side of the desktop, background textures (e.g. wood) were drawn incorrectly.
  - Crash in Sort Database / Remove Deleted Games when Database contains HTML texts without additional files ( e.g. positions.jpgs )
  - Player encyclopedia didn't work with less then 2 GB physical RAM.
  - Playchess.com: Both players can enter moves in shared analysis at the same time, no more analysis focus dialogs necessary.
To analyse together, simply invite your pupil by double-clicking his/her name in the player list of the teaching room.
  - Sometimes a diagram in generated rtf files showed the previous position.
  - Keyboard shortcut (F5) to close the selected board in the multi board kibitzer window on Playchess.
  - Keyboard shortcut (F7) to close all finished boards in the multi board kibitzer window.

CB 12.4 (French Release, Service Pack)
  - 64Bit only: Win7 library "Chess" gets created automatically when user registers file names.
Hint: Right-click arbitrary folders in Windows Explorer to add them to your "Chess" library.
  - ECO classification of database didn't write the ECO codes
  - Filtering the result list (Right-click Edit -> Filter) of an endgame similarity search did not set the move numbers for a single-click load
(only double-click loaded the game at the filter mask position).
  - Parsing of media files in the background upon opening (faster response when working from DVD).
  - Sorting databases could crash.
  - Search for similar pawn structures sometimes ran with only one thread (slow) if c,d,e-file had no pawns.

CB 12.3 (Italian Release)
  - Login to ICCF was broken
  - Replay-control with buttons was broken
  - DGT-Support 64-Bit (not yet released by DGT)
  - Search doubles improved further, different default settings
  - Fritz 11 SE engine was installed in wrong directory in 64-Bit version
  - Board Window: Search the starting position in online database - Useful because it shows all recent strong GM games.
  - PlayChess Kibitzing database: Mark previous instance of repeatedly kibitzed live game as deleted and/or replace last version.
  - Multikibitz window opens more smoothly.
  - MyPGNDownload: Automatically select the new games in the list for fast copying.
  - MyPGNDownload only used for downloaded PGN databases, not for PGN's double-clicked in other folders.
  - Improved the new media window for live streams and on-demand training videos in playchess.com.
  - Faster login when checking for Mega Updates.

CB 12.2 (Service Pack)
  - Removed "Server busy" message when sending email from 64-Bit to 32-Bit Office
  - Importing/Copying databases could hang if a "Top Games" index was present.

  - Online search, Advanced, Ok closes dialog and sends the search request
  - Tactics of the day now always displayed if window large enough
  - Game import with double check was broken
  - Crash in Openings key with damaged key file
  - Sorting history databases in a meaningful way was difficult
  - Copy in network resulted in wrong disk space message
  - Deleting database in a directory removes icon from desktop
  - Selecting many games in a big database could take a very long time
  - With empty player library not all entries in tournament/team list were updated

> (Spanish Release, Dutch Release, Service Pack)

What does it mean?
That only Spanish or Dutch releases are affected, or that it is a "spanish release + dutch release + [all languages] service pack"?
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) [nl] Date 2013-01-11 21:55
The 2nd, updates for Dutch and Spanish + some general (service pack) fixes.

Anyone updated to version 5?
It works Horrible for me. Almost everywhere by many icons it says: "no text" !!
Someone the same problem?
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) [nl] Date 2013-01-12 12:32
I use the English language there all looks ok, but if I change to Dutch I get the same 'no text'.
Seems like a CB12.5 bug!!
Parent - By Dikkie (*) [nl] Date 2013-01-12 12:55
I got the same (zelfde hier).
I put it back from dutch to english and that works perfect.
So it's "just" a language thing.
But I hope they fix it in the next version.

We had a famous politician who once stated:

CB 12.6
  - Delete remaining moves always removed game result, even if used in a line.
  - Occasional exception in deep analysis.
Parent - - By leavenfish (***) [us] Date 2013-01-19 23:23
My program still says 12.5 and 'up-to-date'.
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) [nl] Date 2013-01-20 00:43
Seems the version number was not updated as the cb12 executable itself was not changed in this update...
So the auto-updater does not find a new version. Great...
Parent - - By leavenfish (***) [us] Date 2013-01-21 03:01
So, the new version can be found elsewhere...I've only updated via the auto-updater.
Parent - By Fulcrum2000 (****) [nl] Date 2013-01-21 09:47
Yep, can be found on http://fritzhelp.com/updates/C12/CB12_x64.exe (for 64-bit version)

Now I have a strange problem.
My fritz trainer dvd's don't play in chessbase 12 anymore after last update!!
In Chessbase 11 they do!
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-02-02 16:28
downgrade it
Parent - - By Dikkie (*) [nl] Date 2013-02-02 17:29
How do I do that? Using factory settings?
I thought I wait till others say they have the same problem.
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-02-02 18:02
unistall it,and install it again from the latest executable that worked fine for you (i suposse that you save the executables, and not just 'execute' them')
Parent - - By leavenfish (***) [us] Date 2013-02-03 06:11
Which update - the official '5' when you check from within CB 12 or the '6' someone posted about on here?
I'm at '5'. No problems.
Parent - - By Dikkie (*) [nl] Date 2013-02-03 10:32
It say's 5. A special link was sent where the 'dutch' language started working again. But now this problem comes. Probably I schould wait for the next update and till that time use Chessbase 11?!
Parent - By leavenfish (***) [us] Date 2013-02-03 18:43
I just realize, I do not have one of the 'Power Play' DVD's so I can't speak to that. Everything else I've thron at it is working fine at '5' for me though.

I re-installed it just before you posted after having contact with chessbase, but still doesn't work unfortunately.
The programmer is looking in to it. Hope to hear soon.
Parent - By jammy (***) [gb] Date 2013-02-07 11:00 Edited 2013-02-07 12:05
As someone who has never used/tried Chessbase, (I am trying to use Aquarium and I did get as far as Fritz9 with Chessbase)  my question is this. Is the very high cost of Chessbase12 really worth the outlay? What engines do you get with the programme,  or do you have to purchase them as well?

Yes the 'cloud' thing looks a great feature, however once loads of players start to use it at the same time, I think there will be problems there, as there will not be many available computers free to be able to use.

It just seems a lot of money to me.
Parent - By Dikkie (*) [nl] Date 2013-02-14 22:52
To answer my own problem: I reinstalled my laptop cause more went wrong like Windows 8 tiles not working anymore.
Probably it strangely enough had something to do with my virusscanner. Now Chessbase 12 seems to work fine :-)
Parent - - By leavenfish (***) [us] Date 2013-02-08 00:47
I still don't know wny my 'update program' button in CB 12 says My program is up-to-date at '5'.

With 7zip you can open the exe and see all files inside, also extract and update files by hand without install from exe.
New update should look like this:

We went to 7 today, haven't got a single crash or issue after the upgrade.

CB 12.7 (Service Pack)
  - Live broadcasts on playchess.com: Display the official logo and URL of the tournament in the kibitz window.
  - Possible Crash in reorganisation, fix sort order, integrity check.
  - Heumas always showed possible answer, can now be switched off with "Threats as Arrows".
  - LiveBook window can be configured.
  - DGT-board can be used with Chess960.
  - Search for doubles always checked for similar names, even if set to ignore.
  - Clipboard never opened maximized.
  - Improve player names failed in some cases.
  - Sometimes the feedback bar showed values greater then 100%.
  - Regression in 12.6: Special annotations couldn't be entered/changed.
  - "Next game" from game lists occasionally crashed when skipping HTML texts
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) [nl] Date 2013-03-07 19:33
And CB12 SP8. I noticed check integrity became incredibly slow. So, be careful, there might be more issues.

CB 12.8 (Service Pack)
  - Possible crash with several open boards and switching one to 3D.
  - It was possible to open a second 3D board, resulting in an empty window.
  - Remove deleted games on game files > 2GB could lead to errors.
  - Searching for games in lots of databases simultaneously could fail because of system limits on open files.
  - Regression in 12.7: Database type could not be changed any more.
  - Regression in 12.7: Cursor up/down in move statistics and database list didn't work any more.
  - Integrity check didn't find illegal moves.
  - Select an engine through cursor up/down without first clicking into the dialog.
  - Sorting database list/icons didn't work if none was selected.
  - Possible crash with download of new games.
  - Mouse wheel support in playerbase list was missing.
  - Reorganizing database could change order of tabs in database window.
Parent - - By bnc (***) Date 2013-03-08 13:11 Edited 2013-03-08 13:26
The integrity check tool in CB12 SP7 had a serious flaw. It did not check the moves of individual games as was done in previous versions of CB.
Comparing integrity check run times on a database of 11,840,207 games (CPU i7-2600k @3.4ghz, OS Win 7, RAM 16gb)  :

CB11 (32 bit) - 127 min
CB12 SP7 (64 bit) - 5 min
CB12 SP8 (64 bit) - 91 min
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) [nl] Date 2013-03-08 17:23
Shouldn't they have listed it under Regression in 12.7 then?

It's finding errors now it has never found before, I'm quite sure the check integrity is not the same as it was before 12.7.
Parent - - By bnc (***) Date 2013-03-08 17:50 Edited 2013-03-08 18:18
I don't know when the integrity check problem started. SP7 was the first level of CB12 that I used and I noticed something was wrong right away. I reported the issue and Chessbase confirmed my analysis. The internal integrity check version number,v5.06, is the same as in CB11.
