Hello all!

I am looking for some of the 6-men Nalimov EGTbs. However, there are no direct download links anywhere( is permantly down apparently), there is nobody seeding the torrents I use, Tbgen.exe cannot generate 6-men tablebases and eMule allows me to load a whopping 750b/s which means I will be long dead before I get everything I want. Does anybody have any idea what I should do?

PS. The files I want are listed in the first post of (qr vs qp = qr vs rp)

why you dont obtain directly all the tablebases in a hard drive from someone who has it?

Vegan has all the  men tablebases;you can ask him to copy all the tablebases in a 2Tb hard drive, and send you the hard drive with the tablebases

of course, you must first pay the hard drive and the work, and afer that,he will send you

DISCLAIMER:is only a suggestion,im not telling anything more than an idea

how you obtained the full pack of 6 men tablebases??

downloading more than 1,2 Tb from internet can take months,if not more

Or if you are in a hurry try this :

About a year ago when I downloaded the 6-men from here, the TB's were coming in at 4-5 MB/s.
So you should be finished in a day or 4.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-01-09 13:40
4-5 Mb is over my neighbour bandwidth

yes,my neighbour bandwidth...

hehe
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-01-09 13:59
well,if he install a wife network without protection,is not our problem... (im sure that more people is ''sharing'' is bandwidth)
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2013-01-09 14:12
If he had a plan that charged by consumed bandwidth, he will probably have a stroke. Then you can use all of his bandwidth!
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-01-09 16:21
here,we usually havent plans that charge for the use,all have plans that you pay "x" euros/month,and you have unlimited bandwidth :slim:

that is the only reason what i take "some" of it to,for example, log in here or give my moves;in other case,if he were charged,i will never take some bandwtidth
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2013-01-10 09:48
Sure. The intelligent way to deal with 'unlimited use' is to have everybody in your neighborhood share it!
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-01-10 13:52
well, everybody near about 10-20 meters from his home
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) Date 2013-01-09 14:23
A wife network is probably a lot more expensive then an ordinary wifi network.

I worked with a guy from Vietnam thirty years ago who had a wife network. After he came to the US and found out he could only have one wife, many other women came in as her sisters. He was a very good engineer and sane in most other matters...
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-01-09 16:27
"sane in most other matters"?

where is the problem having one more wife,if you can pay for it? apart from the headaches,of course

Having a bunch of girlfriends is understandable. This is just the result of a million years of evolution.

But multiple wives? The Chinese had it right thousands of years ago when they chose the symbol for 'trouble' - A drawing of two women under one roof. More than two just increases the insanity!
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-01-10 13:55
i htink you are totally right...about the bunch of girlfriends, and the wives

is shown you are a smart man
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2013-01-09 16:23
oh yes,i noticed now my typo :red:

but having a wife network, for sure is more expensive;is expensive have only one wife

MY experience with the full batch of Tablebases 3-6 man is that you can store it on a 2 TB ext drive, it needs about 1.2 TB.  I ran it with Rybka 4 64 bit, and the main problem is that it takes up lots of memory.  I had 8 GB of RAM on my laptop and had to move out some of the files as unnecessary, just to get enough memory to run the program using the TBs.  I find that 600 GB gave you enough stored positions for 90% coverage of moves.  I suspect I would need at least 16 GB of RAM, maybe more to run the whole deal.  It is nice to have the 6-man but it may be slowing down the program somewhat, not really sure.

The TBs might help you win some games but not sure if it is worth all the time/expense..etc.

I have 24GB of RAM.
Parent - By hebroots (**) Date 2013-01-15 22:04
That figures, nice to know..

My comment was mainly to let others know about sizing up their hardware before they undertake a serious venture into collecting all those TBs.  It's a storage issue and a RAM issue to run things right.  The realistic problem comes in if you have "holes" in your TB chains whereby you don't have an entire "family" of moves including all possible pawn promotions.  It is possible that your chess engine would not follow down those paths of play but I'm not sure.

Another thing I found is that one should run "checksums" on all your TB files to check for downloading or copying errors.  There are checksum programs online to do that.  I was shocked to find that some TB files seemed to work properly, had the correct file size, and yet still did not meet checksum criteria.  A lot of errors got introduced while moving the downloaded files from my computer to the external drive.  So if I got the right checksum from my harddrive it might not land that way on the external drive.  Usually re-copying the file fixed it.  But I always had to recheck any file movements for any checksum errors...major pain, not sure why that was happening.  Both my computer and external drive never revealed any operating errors from diagnostic checks.

I had the same problem in the past, you could try - i haven't found a realistic alternative.
There were some online available for free download, the full set of 6-piece, but it doesn't seem to be there any more...
Parent - - By Vegan (****) Date 2012-10-01 20:15
if you are impatient, I can make a hard disk available with the whole 6 piece set include 3, 4 and 5

otherwise go to my chess site and download it while the getting is good

Parent - - By Vegan (****) Date 2012-11-01 22:29

Parent - - By Moz (****) Date 2013-01-05 03:37
Do you have a link to the torrent? I can donate some bandwidth to the cause. Your site redirects to ad infested waters.
