Could someone explain how to set up and use Houdini Configurer to to someone who does not have a degree in computing, and also remembering that I have only just purchased new software etc. for my re installed computer. I can see basic idea that you do, but if you change something in the Houdini engine on your computer, what happens then, do you then need to re install the original engine again? Please remember, make it simple, I am an old dude,  who is not a rocket scientist.
Also which one is the best now?? a,z, etc. etc.

to tune the engine, you must first have installed the official version (obvius),and download HoudiConfig to your computer

you must copy one of the strings that code the different settings under HoudiConfig, and save the changes

after that, you must edit the tuned engine with an hex editor, and change the name to,for example,Houdini2.0x,so you will be able to load it into your gui

if you need further explanation, please,pm me

To help with the explanation to add to Barnard's  post - copy the string of values that you want to use >>> Open HoudiConfig Tool >>> ClipBoard >>> Load Values From ClipBoard >>> Save to EXE >>> use amended EXE to create UCI engine with new values and give it a new name.

Here is a picture to explain it:Don't forget as well as the 4 steps in the picture step 5 is to create UCI engine (and rename whilst you create it) using the EXE you have just changed with config tool. This is an alternative to using a hex editor to rename the amended Houdini:
