Hi Guys,

We have been waiting patiently for "The Seven" to be released: New versions of Fritz, Shredder, Komodo, HIARCS, Rybka, Houdini and Critter.

One has been released and that's Fritz. I also tested Rybka 3 and got a small surprise.

Links to the old but larger Nehalem list are here: http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?pid=414851;hl=Tactical

i dont know if Critter 1.6 will be stronger than Critter 1.4;Richard told that will be improved for analisis, not for elo (or that is what i understtod;if im wrong,Richard can correct me)

He made changes in King Safety and Pawn Pushes that may give it a tactical edge over previous version in some positions.

so i was wrong...

now i dont remember where i read that...but if you tell that,is because you are sure about it

i will test the new Critter 1.6 against the new tuned Houdini2.0s (a tuned version of the tuned Houdini2.0z,trying to recover all the damage that the hard disk failure made and for that reason i lost all my work in Houdini2.0z,so i was only able to put inside the values that i was sure at 100 %,now trying and testing until i will have the 'original' Houdini2.0z again),as soon as i will end the present match

i will post partial results Houdini2.0z against Houdini2.0s when the match will reach 250,500,750 and 1000 games

He just posted the engine changes:

http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?pid=422532#pid422532

What he calls "tweaks" I call "improvements", because I very much doubt he'd make such changes if they worsened the engine. So if he made a change in King Safety, it should be better.

well,he can add that 'tweks/improvement' for the people test them, because arent enough tested

pure speculation from my part

Critter 1.6 keep crashing on my system. (At least I think it's Critter not the GUI).

It stops showing analysis even though it's running in the background. DF13 GUI...

i dont installed the engine, when i wi install,i will tell you if it crashes also in my machine

under what circumstances it crashes?

running the tactics suite, it got half way through and stopped displaying analysis. Fritz counted this as a failure to find the right solution. I am trying on another GUI.

Well, that is strange...maybe Richard can help you

Isuggest that you answer to one of his messages,so he will be able to read your problem

Critter is crashing a lot, and I've tried it some older GUIs as well now. It seems to have some problems under the Fritz GUI closing down. It still runs in the background. This maybe the reason it stops showing analysis half way through the testsuite.

There is a confirmed bug on multi socket machines due to SMP implementation

Hopefully he'll fix it

Ok, thanks.

Thanks Werewolf. A HA! So Rybka 3 is more tactical than Rybka 4.1, it does make sense.

I have seen it time and time again in which 4.1 get's horizon effects were version 3 is alert for the tactics.

Also the playing style of Rybka 4.1 is too aggresive. Unsound play with lots of pawn pushes with no regard for king safety as black. While R3 plays accurate.

Yet R4 prevails with faster depths being reached.
