Learning is one of the hardest parts in AI.

Would you please talk about what you has done?

Check this thread for more on Critter "Learning" (Session File):

I saw that. You would better not to talk and let Richard to answer himself!

Uly is more than competent to talk about critter learning as he is the spiritual father behind this feature.

he is the spiritual father behind this feature.

Plus he's the only one who has ever taught his critter that the opening position was a mate in three!

Very nice

Thanks to Richard for giving us this now Version for free.

If I see all these improvements on the analysis side I could get the impression there might be soon a new Aquarium version that is sold with a commercial citter 2.0?

Just guessing

Critter is an amateur project and I have no plans to commercialize it.

On the commercial side:
I would be glad if any of the major GUI vendors could implement the "sf store" command (it could be renamed if needed), it is an incredibly powerful feature especially for corr. chess players. As for now the only way to use this feature is to run the engine in console mode and type the commands manually, which is probably very inconvenient for most of the users.

Aquarium has something like that for Rybka. Except it seems Vas forgot to include the feature in Rybka 4.1 (possibly even 4) and storing doesn't seem to work (the GUI doesn't send anything). You can view the contents of Rybka's hash, though.

Shredder Classic allows the user to send such commands to the engine by hitting Space.

Also, you can do like Vas and the Rybka Visualizer, when the engine is run it appears with an extra window launched by itself and independent from the GUI. The Visualizer only shows a bit more of information from engine output, but Critter could launch such a window in where the user can see and work with Session File entries. I didn't think it was possible, but after seeing that I think chess engines no longer need to be limited by GUI developers as they can launch their own windows to do the job if it's unavailable on the GUI.

(Picture showing Rybka working with the Visualizer, a window that the engine launched herself to show more fine-grained output to the user, but it could be a console to send commands to the engine)

Good idea, thanks for the tip!

I have Deep Shredder 10 GUI and have yet to get it to work right in windows 7 x64 bit. Can't imagine any of the lesser versions being an exception.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2012-06-19 02:23
What problem are you getting? Does Rybka launch the Visualizer windows?
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-06-19 03:07
I don't know what is going on. My mouse will disappear when placed over the chess board. Only comes into view over pieces I can move. It's just a real pain. I've done clean installs to no avail.

Oh, I thought you were talking about problems getting Rybka Visualizer to work. It seems you're having problems getting the Deep Shredder 10 GUI to work. Is it Fritz GUI or Shredder Classic? Shredder 10 comes with two GUIs.
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-06-19 06:00
Fritz I have no issues with. I was thinking about buying Shredder Classic but not if I am going to have the same issues as Deep Shredder 10.

Download the Shredder Classic Demo and see if it runs fine:

It might be that my version of Shredder 10 is a 32 bit version. I'm not even sure what year it was when I bought it. I've had to ask Stefan Meyer-Kahlen for my serial a few times over the years.

I'll give the demo a shot.

I'm running the 32bit version of Shredder Classic on Windows 64bit without problems.
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-06-20 15:29
I have no idea what is wrong with it. It might have something to do specifically with Shredder 10.

Okay, I tried this and it fails! Apparently their "Command Line" feature only work for sending moves to the engine instead of using the chess board :yell:

Now, to look for a GUI for this...

Yes the author is quite generous to give us such a fine and free chess analyzing tool!

Question: Session file is created but i don't see any reads - writes to the file. (using aquarium)

Am i missing smthg?
Parent - - By jammy (***) Date 2012-06-19 18:03
At least you got more than me, I cannot even find the Session file, where to look?
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2012-06-20 03:20
The engine's folder. If you can't find it is because Critter hasn't created it yet, you need to tick the Use Session File box.

Life is so simple , when someone explains things...well sometimes   Many thanks.
