here are the values inside Houdini2.0z

i tested a lot, also a friend of me (George) tested a lot, more friends that want remain incognito, and apart from that,Sedat is also testing,so i dont find any motif to delay and give those values for everyone

here are:

How many games does it take before you see a difference between these values and Houdini 2.0c x64. - I'm playing these values against Houdini standard and it doesn't appear to be stronger.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-14 22:28
to have a 'sure' values, you need to play at least 1000 games Robert

for example,if you only play 100 games, and 'x' engine gives you a + 15,that can be wrong, since it is a 95 % of the engine tuned can have a +-50 elo points against the other engine,so even with that +15,if you substract 50,you will have a -35 elo points

so to be pretty sure, you need to run at least 1000 games,2000 much better
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-06-14 22:34
Now you're talking Blitz correct. But I wonder if you would need that many games if you played  on significantly longer time controls?   Just wondering.  I wouldn't mind giving it a shot.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-14 22:43
yes,if not the same, near the same games

if you want to have good results, you need to play at least 1000 games, doesnt matter time control

you can have a good aprox.to the true improvement with 500 games, but if you run,for example, only 100 games, you have a chance of 95 % to have a +-50 elo points, and even if you have a result of +15,can be really -35 elo points

A thousand games at 2hrs/40 is nuts.:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-14 22:49
i cant do more Robert,i only can tune the engine, but i cant make miracles and run a test 2hrs/40,1000 games,in just 2 days

maybe if one person has a very powerful machine,he can run multiple instances of the GUI,so it can do the test with 2hr/40 relatively fast
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-06-14 22:48
500 games at 2hr/40 what's that come out to- two months straight of 24/7 running houdini -houdini? That would turn me into even more of a lunatic than I already am...:grin: By then Houdini 3 would be out and no one would give a shit.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-14 22:50
run multiple instances Robert;for example, run each instance of the GUI over 1 core, and run 6 simul GUI,so you will have the results in 1/6 of the time you posted
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-06-14 22:52
Umh! :surprised::roll: I'll give that some consideration.

> Sedat is also testing

How many Houdini2.0z are there?
Sedat is already testing the 2nd (1st was a catastrophy...)
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-14 22:34
was a problem with the first engine that Sedat tested

now the problem is corrected, and that are the true performance of Houdini2.0z
Parent - - By ernest (****) Date 2012-06-14 22:41

> was a problem with the first engine that Sedat tested

any idea what was the problem?
are his "new" settings the same as before?

again my question: is Houdini2.0z tested with the same settings, or are there as many settings as testers?
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-14 22:47
i dont know what problem was,i only know that Sedat solved the problem

yes,are the same settings

with if ''Houdini2.0z'' is test by the same setting by all the testers, what you mean?the same values inside?yes...the same time control?not, each tester has tested in the time control they want

my first version of Houdini2.0z was +30 elo points stronger in a match against Houdini2.0c,2000 games played

i lost that version due to a hard drive failure, and started from zero again...so im really sure i can add at least another 15 elo points to the tuned version Houdini2.0z,i just need time to do it,not more
Parent - - By ernest (****) Date 2012-06-14 22:50
Thanks!
Actually I just read an explanation by Sedat:

i made more changes into Houdini2.0z,and im running a new test

when at least 250 games will be played,i will post the partial results

as usual, screen captures at 250,500,750 games and the final result
Parent - - By dragon49 (****) Date 2012-06-15 21:27
Are you working in any official capacity with Robert Houdart?
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-15 21:43
not...and i havent any relationship with Robert

im just tunning the engine, trying to improve it...just for myself, and of course, also to give those values to everyone,so everyone will be able to have a stronger engine

can i ask you why that question?
Parent - - By dragon49 (****) Date 2012-06-15 21:47
I was just curious.  No other motives.
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-15 21:57
not,Robert and i have not any single relation

i asked him if he will give me a free license copy of Houdini3,and he agree because he thought is impossible that i can improve Houdini2

but for his report, some posts of me were deleted/edited,so i decided that i will give those values to everyone, for free,so everyone will be able to have a stronger Houdini for free...and is what i did

of course,im working on the engine to improve it more, and im pretty sure i will obtain that, but when i will have the results,i will give the values for everyone, for free...im not interested in money or credit;im just interested to do the engine stronger, nothing more
Parent - - By Kraszi (*) Date 2012-06-16 18:15
somebody can understand this settings?
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-16 19:26
you dont need to 'understand' this settings;you only need a program called HoudiConfig, and copy those values into the program, and save it into the engine, and you will have the Houdini2.0z engine
Parent - - By davidwhite (***) Date 2012-06-17 11:16
Barnard,

I have Houdini Pro 2.0c installed in my Deep Fritz 11 GUI.
How do I tune the Houdini engine as you've specified to the values inside Houdini2.0z ?
When I activate the Pro 2.0c engine in Deep Fritz 11 and click on Parameters, unlike the latest Rybka engines, the settings available for changing from default don't correspond to those whose values are to be tuned for 2.0z.
Nobody else seems to be having any problem with this so I must be especially challenged.

Thank you for any help you can give me,
David
Parent - - By keoki010 (Silver) Date 2012-06-17 16:58
David, download the program named HoudiniConfig. You can get it here. Cut the value into your clipboard, run HoudiniConfig, click on the Houdini executable and paste it.close everthing reload the exe in HoudiniConfig to check that the values are stored.
Parent - By davidwhite (***) Date 2012-06-18 07:14
Thanks very much keokio10,
that did the trick.
David
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-17 19:51
the answer that Keoki gave you is the correct, and will help you to tune the engine

if you need further explanation,please,ask

Salvador,
I'm ok now but I want to thank you for your kind offer in addition to thanking you for all the time and effort you put into this project and, then, freely sharing your results with the rest of us.
David

Hi David

thanks for your kindly words

yes, tune the engine, and do a good tunning,is very time consuming...but of course,i gave it to the public, and i will also give to the public the next tunning

regards

Salvador

Thanks for these settings Barnard.
I have read you are going to change the time control for test games and you will use 10"+0.1". Which GUI will you use to play such ultrafast games? I would like to experiment a bit with HoudiniConfig too. I have a quad core: should I play 4 or 3 games at the same time? Thanks.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-18 21:54
Hi NicVico

to run so fast games,if you want to use a GUI,'Arena' can run that tests, and is free...also you can run that tests with Aquarium (not free),or the better option, also you can use the program cutlechess-cli (but you need to know command line parameters, and how to use it)

>I have a quad core: should I play 4 or 3 games at the same time?

im sorry, but i dont understand...what you mean with that?
Parent - - By NicVico (*) Date 2012-06-19 07:26
Ok, I'll use cutechess-cli then.

With 3 or 4 games, I mean that since I have a quad core, I could play 4 games at the same time but since these are ultrafast games I thought that the GUI could take a significative cpu perc % since the engines have so little time for each move, so, I thought that perhaps playing n-1 games at the same time, where n is the number of cores, could be a good idea to reduce noise.

Thanks
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-06-19 17:44
i think that you should use the 4 corea for the thournament, and not split it in 3 tournaments;running games 10"+0.1",you can have easily 2000 games in 2 days,so you can run tests soo fast, and with the 4 cores, the games will have better quality (i mean less bad moves for both sides)
