AMD Phenom II X6 @ 3.7GHz -  This is the hardware on which Critter drew against Rybka Cluster on 100 cores! So it seems that if Richard Vida preferred this processor, it means it is very good, otherwise he would have used an Intel I7 on 6 cores.

thanks.

to use a 100 core for the tournament, i would guess the following :
a) they believe this is more than enough to win and have other customers renting the cluster
b) Does Anand or Gelfant currently rent the cluster ? Maybe both of them !?

One thing I know is that we can't know. I guess part of the deal is that the identities of the customers will remain concealed.

Agreed.

But it should be possible to say something like "y GMs have to date rented the cluster for a total of xxxx core-days".   It would be interesting to know what commercial progress is being made.   I think the cluster project makes sense and I am hoping that it is successdul, so some more info would be welcome.

Well, saying that they won't give any statement on number of customers disallows comments like "maybe they're not giving numbers because they only have 3 customers and that sounds bad."

True.   But there lies the difference between "can't" because of confidentiality and "won't" because of practical issues or laziness.

It's the Bulldozer chip that you should avoid, from what I've read. This one is okay.

I have the AMD Phenom II x6 1100T 6 core and it is really good for chess!! i have a i7 980x 6 core but for price i like the AMD.

I have a AMD FX8150 i had bought for me before all the chess bench marks came out, it was going to be an upgrade for the 1100t but i'm going to list it on ebay and take a loss.

I had a bulldozer pre-ordered, but cancelled it when I saw the performance results, and bought a AMD Phenom II x6 1100T instead. Absolutely brilliant CPU and a great price. I tried to buy another, but remaining stocks had gone through the roof price-wise. So I didn't bother after that.

It is more a case of what was available to him for the weekend.

And one draw means nothing much at all, does it ?
