For most users on this forum these issues might not come into play-

However, they are potentially serious for those who might plan to run NVIDIA SLI Technology or installing two CrossFireX  graphics cards. Or if you have a favorite sound card and don't care to run with the on board version.

Two problems arise that potentially could spell serious issues for the mobo unless you water cool the GPU's  Otherwise lots of heat going into that unit!

The Graphics Card  will cover the PCH  Fan !  The same fan that is governed by your THERMAL RADAR software-THAT may or may not install! (I have not been able to get it to function to date!!! It is useless) and leave the fan running at turbo speed or less!

The same fan that is not a stock fan, but is proprietary! Which means you will need to board a 747 to Thailand -acquire a guide and body guards, head into the jungle-find the labor camp where these  boards are built -bribe a few guards to fish through some boxes to come up with the fan replacement. (worth 5 cents at most and just cost you $3,0000 :yell::grin:

gaming grade chassis can easily manage air flow to make sure a SLI setup does not overhead the MB

see the white papers, lots of helpful information for building a rig

That's great! I had to move out a Creative Labs Sound Blaster  Fatal1ty Champion Platinum sound card that I've used for years. It had a midi for my keyboard and was useful for composition purposes. If I didn't move it out my video card would have been blocking the PCH fan. I'm not a gamer.

Is this mobo still pissed? You spend $500 on a water cooling system and the motherboard gets over heated! What a joke! :yell: And stays over heated.

Yeah- Man! That was while Houdini was playing Critter and I was sleeping!  I got up just to check the mobo and it was a good thing I did. So much of that o/c!
Parent - - By mocha1961 (***) Date 2012-04-29 14:19
maybe case problem? like the air outflow? just my guess
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-04-29 19:01
I don't think it was just heat due to a lack of air flow -I put a Lasko fan Lasko 4900 Pro Performance H.V. Utility Fan on that sucker with the side panel off- didn't make a dent on bringing the temp down- long after the cpu load was zilch!

More likely a constant voltage spread. I'm thinking "maybe" the Parameter -CPU Power Duty Control- having chose "Extreme" which, maintains the VRM Current Balance! That was the first time I chose that parameter instead of - "T.Probe"- which maintains a thermal balance. Maybe?

Or, maybe maybe I need an exorcist!

Maybe there is an error in the thermal sensor giving false readings....
You should also consider this option....

Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-04-30 16:02
I've also given that some thought.

>Maybe there is an error in the thermal sensor giving false readings....

By way of supporting your contention...

I have attempted to install this component by uninstalling and re installing Thermal Radar ( Al Suite, et al )   numerous times without success. On certain web sites it was suggested that you can install the missing "AsusFanCntrolService..." and get this thing working -I've not found a way of doing so. I've also tried edited out the three services in the registry and then re-installing Thermal Radar -no go.

I have no control over the PCH fan-otherwise. Asus has developed their hardware and with a crappy software to control it. What a blunder. This issue is noted across the web and Asus is ignoring it.

What is this desktop background, looks interesting

That's a question of the past! With today's technology, all you need to do is: go to Google Images, drop the image you want to know more about into their box, click on their best guess for what the image is about, scroll down until you find the matching image, and BAM!:

(His desktop has that Vector Snake)

(Yeah, I love reverse image search, I was not paid by Google for this message)

Awesome, ty.

Will try using that next time.
Parent - By mad max (***) Date 2012-05-01 00:44
what is your assit.fan OPT rpm's.
assit fan ,and pch fan RPM's?

Just curious because this seems very odd to me. I have the same board ,with no such problems.
Parent - - By mad max (***) Date 2012-05-01 00:46
Your vcore is very low .To low maybe.
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-01 00:57 Edited 2012-05-01 01:00
I just finished 23hrs of prime95 torture test blend at 48.43. with no errors. at these stats. Here is a screen shot of the same after 16hrs - I didn't take a screen shot after that but the stats did not change.

Current temps at idle

core voltage,in my opinion,is to high.Try a mild oc.
100bclk
46mult.
1.40 core voltage.
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-01 05:00
you might be right I have an oc at 47 also-

I solicited advice on Overclockers to see what the general opinion is on that.

Check these two out for size...
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-01 05:54
What's important to understand here is that when I do run these core voltages it will be during games and not on a regular bases. So if I run a match the Core Voltage will be 1.464 at the extreme on a 4844 o/c- which I don't think is stressful  for this chip-at least I would hope not. When I am not involved in running a match I can easily go back in and switch profiles and run a the mobo's idea of an o/c 3900...Or, just or a few more o/c  experiments with graduated steps up to say 47.
Parent - - By mad max (***) Date 2012-05-01 17:10
You should be able to run that oc all day in the engine room.
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-02 04:51
Yeah! Well, I've decided to format my hard drive and start all over again! It usually takes me 6hrs to put everything back. I'll see which program kicks Thermal Radar off the of its sensors.:slim:
Parent - - By mad max (***) Date 2012-05-03 01:13
one more thing. In bios, make sure u have the intel thermal monitor enabled.....i know you do.
otherwise radar won't work.
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-03 03:58
I have a program that might be conflicting with Thermal Radar. I had it working up to a point. I'm going to format one more time to search this out.
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-04 02:48
No! This board is undoubtedly, South of Cheese!  I was contacted by some dude from ASUS who suggested I try exactly a number of procedures all of which I had already attempted with no success. On top of that judging from some of the bizarre warning messages I've been seeing popping up telling me that at idle my core votage was at 2.5 while core temp CPUID showed it to be a  at .986 or some such level - that my cpu temp was at 149c while the core temp showed 23c. I'd say the thermal radar on this has gone completely mad...max! And to think this is the second board the first had bad memory slots.

Good dude!

The only thing i'm haveing a problem with ,is disableing turbo mode.
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-05 13:15 Edited 2012-05-05 13:17
Like I stated in PM -I uninstalled the software. Finished with it!!!:cool::wink: Too many issues of incompatibility. Checking out AIDA64 for monitoring hardware.
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-09 05:17
Mad Max,

I have another ditty to report! The core speed is not being reported accurately in the pgn. I'am starting to lose all hope!
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-11 07:52
Mad Max ASUS contacted me re: the error messages popping up are enough to indicate the need for a replacement of the board.
Parent - - By mad max (***) Date 2012-05-11 17:50
4841 core speed.Thats about right bud.But if you are getting error messages perhaps a new board is in order .What do your most frequent error messages say?
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-05-11 20:08
It's not the core speed its the pop up warning messages stating the the V core is at 0000. or  motherboard is at 123c when at idle. Or the Bios coming up "blank" without a display! :yell: I think a new board may in fact be in order.
Parent - By mad max (***) Date 2012-05-11 22:28
YIKES...carry on my dear.Watson
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2012-06-14 01:28
Finally narrowed down the main issue that causes Thermal Radar to get booted out of the registry. When, or, if you do a registry clean,  Thermal Radar,  is treated as an "invalid Active X "!

If one uses any kind of registry cleaner with Al Suite II - it might pay to uncheck the "Invalid Active X " and make sure you back up the registry. Yippee!

Sounds to me like you are going to Thailand for the wrong reason...
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-05-11 23:11
my friend, why one person can go to Thailand, apart from buying cheap computers?

yes,i also hear that...but i want that Banned for Life clarify me that point

you have been told?.mmmm....

What for a  population of women with Genital Warts! :yell: Or for the Thai stick!   My guess is those who were putting these boards together might very well have been indulging in the latter of the two possibilities.

I was thinking of the great diving sites and the beautiful Buddhist temples, but to each his own!
