>Evaluation score looks good on a couple of positions I have tested - anyone have any views on this engines chess playing ability?
Brilliant engine - top tactical!! In the "AH_Tactics test suite", it solved with 10s limit 248 out of 250 positions when the previous nr one, 64b MP Critter solved 246 positions.
You can download the "AH Tactics-250" test suite for Arena 3.0 GUI here:
Thank's Yuri Osipov for this free engine!

For example in this 100th game even gaviotas didn't save Houdini from playing 67...h4? by zeitnot. Baah! Stinky clones!

1 Strelka 5.5 +519/=501/-324 57.25% 769.5/1344 2 Houdini 1.5a w32 +324/=501/-519 42.75% 574.5/1344
if games are played soo fast, and Strelka (only pure speculation) is very good playing bullet games, you can see that type of rare results, since strelka is a clone of Houdini 1.5 (maybe version 5.5 a clone of Houdini 2)
but if you play 'normal' games at normal time controls, you will see that Houdini will win against Strelka
10 secs with pondering equals at least 5 minutes on Pentium/200 MHz.
P.S. 10 secs is not enuf, 100 games is not enuf, 1000 games is too fast, 100 games is too slow, idk what ya need
I never criticised your work,i just told that maybe Strelka plays vera well bullet chess,or is tuned to play against Houdini
Apart from that,if you do that test, are good from the point of the statistical scorin points...
But if you try to mame the test with more time, les say 2 minutes for the game, maybe the store will change
In all cases, thanks for sharing your results
Houdini 1.5a using 1 core, pondering, no gaviotas, Perfect 2012.

have you the games of your tournament in a pgn archive?
thanks in advance
but using Houdini 2.0c and strelka 5.5,that im sure is the RE of Houdini 2.0c (or maybe the b version, since the c is only a bug correction)
Match will end after 200 games played. For now, Houdini looks like as an expensive piece of junk.
Probably setting contempt to 0 would help, later...
Mr. Houdart was so kind to implement strength-weakening technology if you enter incorrect registration code.
Hopefully, I'm avoided this trap. For testing purposes
What's more? I can't remember... For just you only to know... Vodka Belenkaya is the best sort! Of vodka... errr, I forgot my inglosh...
from what i read at his facebook page,if you enter an incorrect serial/use a pirated engine with a wrong serial,Houdini plays 150 elo points weaker than the 'original' Houdini, not enough to be detected if you dont run tests, but enough to start you lossing games if you play at playchess, for example
so i think he implemented a good measure and a good elo number, not too high, not too slow
p.s.i recall that information is given AT HOUDINI's FACEBOOK PAGE,AT PUBLIC SITE,WHERE EVERYONE CAN READ IT AND WITH THE PURPOSE THAT EVERYONE READS IT...NOT PIRATE SITE...SO NO REASON TO DELETE/MOVE THE POST
p.s.what about Stolichnaya vodka?i have a bottle...directly stolen from my father's home
my father dont drink alcohol, just collect the bottle, and have a lot of them,so i think he wont miss just one
> if you enter an incorrect serial/use a pirated engine with a wrong serial,Houdini plays 150 elo points weaker than the 'original' Houdini
I think you are right "Jerry" because for example when I tried to download an illegal copy of Houdini Aquarium from the website www.astroboy.com, my computer froze for about 30 seconds and then I was re-directed to www.Hiarcs.com
>I think you are right "Jerry" because for example when I tried to download an illegal copy of Houdini Aquarium from the website www.astroboy.com, my computer froze for about 30 seconds and then I was re-directed to www.Hiarcs.com
you have a very good irony
i never heard about that page...what sells that page, shoes for donkeys?
im gonna buy a few,i wouldnt be at risk to losse the opportunity to have one of the well designed and tested one by one by the designer and developer of that wonderful product
Could be worse. You might have ended up with Crafty!
>dont tell at public about pirated engines
*whispering* yes, let us afraid of K.G.B. Nevermind that Houdini's a clone of Ippolitto/Robbolitto Rybka derivatives itself.
>p.s.what about Stolichnaya vodka?
It's most popular TM in here. You can probably see it in movies.
K.G.B.? and im a disident
well,i never heard about the vidka you named, but should be a good vodka
but when i drink,i just drink good beer and good whisky and good vodka...my father is a very generous man,he never look and never counts the bottles
200 games PGN
Blitz:4'+2" 1 Houdini 2.0c w32 +46/=110/-44 50.50% 101.0/200 2 Strelka 5.5 +44/=110/-46 49.50% 99.0/200
It is not equal because I suspect that the time management is different.
some engines for example may have a rule to search only to depth 1 when the remaining time is less than 1 second regardless of hardware(something that does not happen often in 5 minutes per game but happens often in 10 seconds per game).
Some engines also may have a rule to check if the opponent made a move only every 1/10 second that is not very important in 5 minutes per game but can cause a problem in 10 seconds per game.
Note that copying from houdini is no explanation for the fact that strelka is better at this time control and you need to do some change to make the thing better
at 10 seconds per move.
PS, games playing fast, it's now 270 games and 45 Elo Houdini losing;
need to change to deeper depths...
>Is there anyway to download Strelka 5.5? Thanks-
> called 'Arrow 5' Or maybe that is Russ for the engine
Sure. Look at the old logo. Apache, bow and an arrow.
Strelka won by 21 Elo! (Portable Game Notation rare-led)
Time control: 15 minutes/game + 10 seconds/move.
Book: The Turk II (don't really matter because of changing colors - and opening)
Table bases: 5-men for Fritz 11 GUI only.
Multiprocessor: disabled (like Strelka, Houdini was using only ONE "core")
Permanent brain: pondering on!
Computer: Four-core Q6600 with browser games and movies playing in background (two CPU cores free)
Pia status: drunk
Pia comment: game #33 was decided by user (Pia)
