Did I miss the Dual socket 2011 results thread, I cannot find it.

I am not talking about the news.
I am talking about the posts here saying they would post benchtest results.

I think dave is waiting for bios update or get a new board as his board could be faulty.

He does have the cpu's and the other bits.

thanks

ASUS?

yes asus board first bios is weak but i may be stuck with it due to returns policy of no returns after 14 day period lol.........

learn one lesson never buy a board before the cpus are out.

Their quality control has depreciated dramatically in the last few years. I'm seeing a trend in other major tech manufacturing companies as well (Evga). The increase in development in superior processing power- concomitant with the need to  manufacturing new boards to accommodate these new sockets- for purely economic reasons I would imagine  they are trying to cut corners in manufacturing. The rush to get these boards out probably doesn't help in maintaining quality control. They end up dealing with issues after the fact.

You almost have to wait until the next generation of the same board comes down the assembly line -hopefully with a fix in place for known issues. It almost pays to be on a tight budget that force one to hold off.

Sorry I've been really busy. I'll try to post more when I get a chance.

Bottom line: Sandy Bridge E5 16 core Xeon @ 3 Ghz (that's the 2.6 Ghz chip with Turbo 2 taking all cores to 3 Ghz) = 26,000 Kn/s on the start position using Houdini 2 Pro.

Thanks for the info Werewolf.
Would you talk some about your build, parts, memory, which coolers, temps at stock clock, esp. Motherboard etc.
Parent - - By Werewolf (*****) [gb] Date 2012-03-30 18:42
I didn't build it.

The only info I know is the RAM which was 1333 MHz ECC RAM.

Cooling was stock air. It was an engineering sample so the 'finished product' will look better & probably run cooler the engineers told me.

oh - one other thing: it used C0 stepping.

I am building a single socket 8 core with the ASRock motherboard this weekend.
Air cooled, 8 gigs ram. If I dont have any trouble, then I will bench it Saturday.
Cpu is 3.1x8. Even at stock clock it should be ok for checking some lines and position analysis.
I remember when I built my single socket 1366 6 core at 4gig, I thought it was fast enough.
So you would think the socket 2011 at same clock would be just a tick faster.

Damn k I wish you lived around me somewhere instead of in oz land, click your name and you'll see you are in kansas.  We could build something really good.

Well I could make another video. I could disassemble my SR-2 in detail and then reassemble in extreme detail,
covering every step with close up video and plenty of instructional verbage. (is verbage a word?)
Then maybe someone here would build their own and use it to win a game against me.
Now that would be fun.

Nope, that's too much trouble for you.  I don't have the room I need, too much other junk. I'll just stick with my i7-980. It should be able to beat that old hardware you have!!!:razz:

Hi there,

How is your build going? Can you report any benchmarks yet?
Parent - By kgburcham (***) [us] Date 2012-04-02 01:23
The ASRock MB is having trouble with the 8 core.
I will try the other cpu Monday, had to work 12 today.
If neither 8 core is compatible, then I will return the MB or try another brand of MB.
If I cannot get one of the two cpus to work in any single socket MB then I will wait on the SR-x.
I have 60 days before I can return the 2 cpus, maybe.
I havent given up yet on the single socket 8 core.
