I feel a bit bad for opening a new thread for this. I have a very simple question:
I have several different IDeA trees. I only want to analyze one game/position/opening line at a time. When I am done with this, I only want to switch the tree in which the analysis is stored. Is there any need for me to create several projects, or is it safe to do everything I do in, say, the default project?

Okay, once I am at it, here is another question: If I also define a master tree - will anything about the analysis (e.g. minimaxing) take longer then?

If I understand what you are asking, you can create 1 project and then just edit the analysis tree name to have the game stored there. It would probably be better to have several projects with different analysis trees though. You can use the same master tree with no problem however.

Thanks. Why do you think it would be better to have several projects?
I think it would be more tedious to have one project for each tree (for me!), if that is what you have in mind.

Oh, my (second) first experience with the new Aquarium is going great. I tried to export positions from a tree to my master tree and the whole computer hung up. Twice.

Happens again each time I try. Does anyone have an idea what happened? Is the master tree corrupted? And is it likely that I did something wrong, or is exporting a tree to another one not that safe after all?

(You may want to run Aquarium in Low Priority so that at least only it hangs and not the whole system)

How LARGE is the tree you are trying to export????

If your master tree is corrupted? I dont know. Use Aquatrium Tree Utilities Program to find out.

>is exporting a tree to another one not that safe after all?

I do this every day without a problem.

Not really large. A few thousand positions.

The master tree seems to be okay. I will have a closer look later.

I have no idea what the problem is. Both trees seem fine. I can import anything else into the master tree without problems. But with this particular tree, it always crashes. (Always at 51% into, I think, minimaxing).

Maybe you could import the epd file into a new project and try it?

Sorry to bother you again. What is the (best) way to connect positions in a tree in the new Aquarium? So, suppose for instance my tree starts at a position at move 5 and I want it to connect back to the starting position. (I recall I had a problem with the way the previous version handled this, that was one version why I switched back to Aquarium 3.)
