Has anyone tried one of these for chess - I am worried that the cooling might not be up to 24x7 - I know laptops are not ideal but they are more portable ;)....

Well one thing you could do is using remote Aquarium. You can use your home computers via remote to your laptop, I'm not exactly sure how this works so you would have to ask. But if this was the case then you wouldn't have to an expensive laptop.
By the way I know there are almost other means to use your home computers remotely. Would that be something you are interested in? Something like teamviewer can be useful.
Hi yes remote is sometimes an option... however most of my remote analysis is when my son is playing chess and frequently their is no wifi or mobile signal. Kids tournaments are frequently in school buildings and they don't like mobile masts in school grounds.
However it was a good point and I do remote to 4 desktops at home currently but I still want a powerful laptop. Chess processing per watt is better on my current laptop than my overclocked Q6600 this is another consideration in going mobile - the machines are made for efficiency without having to self build.
Thanks Shaun

For 250-300 $ more you can get yourself an i7 notebook which is much powerful than the i5
i5 is too slow compared to the i7,especially the mobile ones....

Cooling is a lot better on newer laptops. My old one used to get very hot, but my new HP Elitebook barely seems to get warm. Dual core with hyperthreading rather than quad core though. Brilliant laptop, but expensive. However I didn't have to pay for it, so that aspect wasn't a concern
