Welcome mocha1961, and if you can invite some friends, they'll be welcome too
Agreed
pity BigBen cant sign up.i feel he would give us all a run for our money.
I think you are right, I checked a few posts of his analyses on a few lines and they seem dead-on accurate.
Yes, I've been member of the same team of analysis methods back when he was called The Wizard, and he always refuted my lines and ideas easily
What are the time controls and when is it? Sorry if this info has been posted before..
from Garvin:
Starting date: Play will start Saturday February 4th GMT 1am. We will be using a rotating GMT starting time, so the second set of games will start at 5am GMT. Exact starting date to be decided near the end of the first games.
Time Control: 30 days initial time plus 1 hr increment from move one till end of the game

Freestyle chess is kicking off at the same time maybe the reason for people sitting this one out .................but who knows.
If that's the reason, I suggest Garvin to start up normally (no RR) and allow late joining of players that may miss the first round but play the rest of the tourney.
that is what I will be doing, then if we still only have 15 or so entries, moving a round robin at game 3.
what happened to MOCHA1961
withdrew, only sent me a message saying he did not realise there was so much involved, I replied by got no reply in return. I think it was an issue with having to test xfcc play or chess planet first before he could be admitted to the tournament.

That was a bad decision: Allow people to join without any requirement. After they've joined, make them test the software.
Did we just lose a player for this bureaucracy?

I do not think so. My choice of words was probably not quite accurate. Ah the joys of trying to give a quick reply.
I think the issue was that mocha did not realise that we play our games on an interface server, be it xfccplay or chessplanet, and so he would need to know how to use those interfaces. So when he said he was entering, I sent him information for learning how to use those interfaces and to contact Dadi to set up some games and get passwords etc.
At that point he decided that it was too much trouble and asked to be taken out. I would assume that he thought that we just entered moves in the forum, or something. I have heard nothing from him since then.
I see, thanks.
Anyway, if MOCHA1961 is reading this, I tell him that using the server and xfccplay is more convenient, and easier, than posting moves in the forum, once set up. I guess it's his loss.

Post to him in the game I am playing against him. He answers every day!

what is my loss Uly? lol
if i can understand Xfcc, any fool can as i know nothing about computers. It also helps in stopping you making mistakes when posting a move.Your move will then appear on WBCCC thread an hour later. Its really easy to understand and if you have probs just mention it on forum and guys will jump in to help you.
best Paul.
best Paul.
that is not the issue of how to understand whatever Xfcc is. the issue is its my own decision not to join. and nobody can force me to join if thats ur problem too. i guess all that understood that Xfcc are fools.
sorry,no prob if you dont wish to play.No need to get hot under the collar about it.
i was quiet then not until you guys awaken the sleeping BEAR. cheers.

Ditto. Quite a pleasant guy on the forum and plays excellent chess and one of the favorites to win. I could say the same of the entire field.
You may want to make sure Wayne doesn't want to play.

How are you going to deal with the possibility of odd number of players?
I had a feeling this was going to happen.
I think there are two options.
1) The option we used in 2011, with pairing the bye players together.
2) I play when the numbers are odd.

If you don't mind playing them, its probably the best option.

I would prefer not to because of the issues that could arise, but as it is likely that I will not be playing all games, if there are issues, they can be resolved.
At least it will keep the cross table looking neat
I don't mind playing twice, me and my wife...
I like both options, and I think it would be interesting to see you play

Chess ???
Yes, for all we know Garvin may beat us all if he played!
Oh! I felt You commenting Jose Playing with his wife!!!
Ah, no, the Threaded system on the forum sometimes causes that confusion, and see, there's an indent that aligns my message with the one I replied to (click [^] to see), but the indents seem a waste of space!
Anyway, let me fix it:
Yes, for all we know ppipper's wife may beat us all if she played!
