I would not call it "dominant" per say. They didn't beat all competition by a giant margin. I heard people say that JapanTopTeamII won in the 3 minute control by playing somewhat questionable openings. Other books have no line against it, using more time. If true, this is a somewhat cheap tactic that may only work on short time controls.
