Since you said e6 is your move. I wouldn't mind trying to work on my queen's pawn opening ideas.

Are you good with this? Or was you looking for more of a French game?

Neither, just want some fun, expecting to get slaughtered though..

BTW Jimmy, how do I post the position as a diagram?
Parent - By TheHug (Bronze) [us] Date 2011-06-20 03:48
If you have Fritz GUI. Look in the upper left and look for "Copy Position". Now hit Ctrl+V for paste and you will paste a FEN string. Now when you hit post you will get a board diagram.
Parent - - By TheHug (Bronze) [us] Date 2011-06-20 08:01
Got to love the Center game. I remember reading a book about this opening. You can actually play it form, both sides of the board. I wonder what a GM would think if you play this against him.
Parent - - By donkasand (***) [za] Date 2011-06-20 08:22
Jimmy, I think the diagram is wrong. I think my bishop is still at f8?

I think Ponomariov tried it once himself and beat a lower rated opponent with it...
Parent - By TheHug (Bronze) [us] Date 2011-06-20 08:29
Edited made.

Really I wouldn't see Ponomariov trying it, but against a lower rated player anything I guess is possible.

In fact I find 5 games where Spassky adopted this set up with black, against different openings of white.
Parent - - By TheHug (Bronze) [us] Date 2011-06-20 08:55
Interesting, I will have to take a look at them.

Spassky used it even in World Championship games vs. Petrosian:

There is an excellent book written by GM Tiger Hillarp Pettersun regarding Modern Tiger, a section was devoted for the Hippo. Have a look on it you will discover some nice themes there.

Thanks for the link!
Seems a tad more respectable than I thought initially.
Not so sure how it will hold up against engines though...

I'll make more moves starting next week. I'm prepare for a state championship tournament this weekend.

I'm back now, so if you want to make a move. You can at any point. I had a lot of fun!
Parent - - By keoki010 (Silver) [us] Date 2011-08-01 19:38
Well don't keep us in suspense...How'd you do?
Parent - - By TheHug (Bronze) [us] Date 2011-08-01 21:02
I did oh ok, I found out how rusty I was. Haven't not played in a state championship for almost 2 years and not played OTB in almost a year. Only a month of prepare didn't help either. But the good news is that I did had the upper hand in all the games I played! I ended up losing 2 games and drawing one (shouldn't of had the drawn game!) I plan on getting back in the tournament scene this year going into next. I have 1 game worth showing the others are not as interesting to me.
Parent - - By keoki010 (Silver) [us] Date 2011-08-01 22:28
