What is wrong with the download speed? 12.8kb/sec and constant error "Connection with server reset"

Is ChessOk aware of the problem? What they are doing about it?

Thanks,

Ricky

No problem here - downloaded in a few seconds!

This latest release still suffers from a serious IDeA bug where minimax eventually stalls with zero cpu activity. I received build 434 which did not help and also this 441 build did not fix the problem. On the contrary, I get the impression the bug occurs more often now then with Aquarium 2010. I hope ChessOK realizes that reliable tools for correspondence chess are much more important than all those fancy new features.

I think the recommendation  for TreeOptions tree _memory has changed, 1500 might not be a good idea. I am using the default 100 and minimax is pretty fast even with big trees.
Maybe someone else can confirm but you might want to reconsider that in the meantime.

That's correct.

I just changed it back to 100 but it did only take one cycle of 811 tasks before it got stuck again.

This happened to me a while back when I tried more than 2000 and minimax got stuck. If I remember correctly I had to use the latest backup version of the tree. Remove every other tree related file. I mean use only the hsh and elm files. Don't ask me why this worked for me, hopefully it will work for you. Of course back up just in case.

There are a lot of tree related files I can think of, the Project xml being one of them, although I doubt that deleting this contributes anything. I suppose you mean I should delete the tree files in the same folder as the tree, like the ..discarded and the files with the $ sign in the name that are remnants of a stuck IDeA session. I will try this as soon as the computer is available again. I started some old fashioned infinite analysis to keep the cpu busy of course ;-)

Yes, of course. I meant the discarded, $ and maybe you see some mm files as well. Remove them from the folder (backup just in case), replace the elm and hsh files with the most recent backup and try again.

Victor, is there any reason to do this update if we do not use the specialized features like XFCC and HTML folder, e.g., is IDeA improved?

I would recommend to update. Several bugs are fixed in different modes. None of them are critical. But it is better to have cleaner version.

where do I find the latest book for DR 2011?

I purchased the update today... finally...

I couple of quick questions:

1. Will the download include this update or will I have to download this too?

2. I see their might be an issue 'minimax eventually stalls with zero cpu activity' - what are the latest recommendations to avoid this?

3. I realise that the 'upgrades' require a manual check of the provided serial - any idea how long this normally takes? (Now I have finally decided to upgrade I am in a hurry )

Question:  Shouldn't this show up in the ChessOK Downloader?  I did not realize that this patch was available until I saw this thread.  Patching was easy and worked just fine once I saw it - but I thought the downloader would let me know if patches were available by running it periodically.

Is this update free or do we need to pay to use it? Because I downloaded and installed it and it now asks me to enter a serial key whenever I open Aquarium now.

It's free.
