OK, stupid question....

I have Aquarium 4.0.7, does that mean I need to get the 4.0.7 update, or is the update supposed to bring previous versions to the 4.0.7 standard?

It will update previous versions to 4.07. You are running the latest and the last version in 4-series. If you want further updates you'll need to get Aquarium 2011 (see the links on the right side).
