Ok, I got a little bit tired of this issue (and virtually no response to it), but all recent IDEA builds (beginning with 4.0.6) have same bug which prevents IDEA from working at all. On the first minimax IDEA freeze completely and a number of junk files are generated for infinte_analysis tree and for IDEA tree (all with extensions containing $...$). I just bought Aquarium 2011 and made a fresh install (uninstalling previous version first). To my ultimate disappointment on the first IDEA minimax it happens again. I am using windows XP professional - 64 bit.

Have you modified anything within RPlayOptions? I had a similar problem when I assigned more than the recommended memory to Tree Options tree_memory. 1000 is fine.

No. The reason why I believe that this is the IDEA bug is that it happens on all my computers.

Since IDEA works on all computers except Kirill's, it may be better to call it the Kirill bug.

Did you do a clean install on any of your computers?

My systems are crash-prone, and after restart, this has happened to me occasionally. In the tree folder, an mm tree is found, and sometimes yellow trees. I usually delete all these trees and restore from Backup. Sometimes this was not sufficient even though Check Tree utility showed success, and then mostly compressing the backed up tree using Tree Utilities worked. Once in a while, reinstallation is the only solution.

It's not just a Kyrill bug.
Trust me, I know. I suspect it depends on the position / tree, because it doesn't happen to all trees, but it does happen with certain new trees in clean installations from scratch.
I prefer to send bug reports to Chessok directly though, with files included, and not to the forum.

!!!!!

1) CLose Aquarium
2) Delete infinite_analysis (all files)
3) Create a new project.
4) Start IDEA.

is everything ok?

if not.. check if deep_analysis.epd file has grown beyond 2GB. If yes. Delete it.

Yes I did all those steps (for the version 4.06) and it did not help. However after I uninstalled Kaspersky internet security IDEA successfully did the first minimax (hooray :) ). However, I do not want to run unprotected either. The reason why I decided to try to uninstall Kaspersky was that it was reporting on the start of Aquarium a "suspicious behavior, similar rootkit", but next message was "allowed" I tried to put Aquarium in the category "trusted" (instead of low restricted), but it did not help. I wonder if anyone else is running Kaspersky and IDEA on windows XP Professional 64-bit.

I do not know how to use Kasperksy but i guess you can exclude Aquarium Data folder from scanning (and Aquarium.exe)
I use nod32

I don't have Aquarium but I have been having the same type of problem with Kaspersky and Shredder 12 GUI (from Shredderchess) and Chessbase 9 lite premium.  I just disable protection whenever I run those programs now.  Kaspersky must not like chess software.

I have the same problems with Aqua and Kaspersky 11.02.556. First a message with found a kind of rootkit and then programme is allowed.
After that message I can use Idea and minimax is no problem. Just Idea is still a hell of a problem to me:confused:
You always can disable proactive defending in Kas.

There is clearly something unusual about your setup. What are the full paths to your Aquarium and AquariumData directories? How much memory does your computer have? How much free disk space is there on your AquariumData disk? What hash size are you using for your IDeA engines? How many instances of the engine are you using in Aquarium? What third-party software are you running on your computer?

Saying there is a "serious bug" which prevents IDeA from running is simply nonsense!

I have run all versions of IDeA from the very first release up to Aq2011 and have NEVER had any serious problem - the bug (whatever it is) is clearly due to YOUR system or YOUR setup.

The programmers at Convenka (plus knowledgeable people on the forum) are always very helpful if problems do occur with any aspect of Aquarium, but you cannot expect much help when you make nonsensical claims such as saying that "a bug - which prevents IDeA from working at all" which is clearly not true.

It was 4 computers with independent set up of OS and Aquarium, clearly something wrong here. The only explanation I have at this point that new IDEA is not compatible with Kaspersky 2011 internet suit.

Did you reuse your old <AquariumData> directory? If yes, try a completely fresh install (no need to uninstall). Add a root to the default project and start IDeA.

No, it was new directory with new IDEA tree
