The experience this time in upgrading has been excellent, time will tell whether the new 2011 version is reliable...

I ordered over Easter weekend, received a link within 24 hours. I consider that good service.

I chose on purpose to do a clean install ... why?

Having read the excellent articles on ChessCafe website, including the archived ones on Aquarium, I found the new features on linked projects, and advice on setting up IDEA very helpful. Pity I did not find them earlier!

So, I chose to create many separate projects linked from games, with a set of Master IDEA projects to gather similar stuff together. I also linked Infinite Analysis into IDEA, and created a Tree file for each type of engine to be able to compare results.

I exported and then imported from some of my old IDEA trees into the new version. For others, I created a custom tree or two that looks at new IDEA trees, old IDEA tree, an Opening Tree, and, in some cases, another suppliers PowerBooks.

All this took 30 minutes AFTER reading the articles. Without them, I would probably still be fumbling around.

If I had one recommendation - include such excellent articles into the manual as appendicies..
