Why is it allowed that any member comes and starts posting links? Probably just a [EDIT]requirement of 10 posts first, or something would help with SPAMBots.
Instead of such SPAM appearing and having to be deleted, it shouldn't be allowed to appear in the first place (something easy as all SPAM have links in them).

Good idea.
Serious new members could even post non-functioning links as a workaround still, e.g. without "http://".
The current policy is to use methods which don't restrict or require extra work from normal users. Therefore I don't use CAPTCHAs or similar methods. Although not perfect (no method is), I'm currently catching around 99,95% of all spambots before they post (although I can't know if all of them actually would have posted if they got through).
Nah, that's too easy
Of course it's quite effective if you only look at it from the administrator's/moderator's point of view, but since normal users may want to post links in their first few posts I want to look at other methods first.

What about requiring validation of first post if it contains a link?
That's one option, i.e. only a placeholder for the post would be visible until a moderator approves it.
We had a SPAMBot recently breaking havoc, have you considered going with this placeholder plan?
This is how we do it on OpenChess, and it works great. Low maintenance and it catches (so far) all of the spam.
Yes, that's what motivated me to create this thread, as 100%>99.95%, and it's always bad seeing the 0.05% of remaining spambots flooding the board.
