Let's see if i got this right:

Electric dog-polisher = a device to polish dogs.
Electric-dog polisher = a robotic dog to polish something.
Electric dog polisher = a device to polish robotic dogs.

How would you denote a robotic dog that polishes robotic dogs?
Parent - - By Labyrinth (*****) [us] Date 2013-06-17 12:20
Or a robotic dog that polishes dogs from Poland.

An electric dog polisher for polish dogs.

How about a polish robotic "polisher dog" that can polish others like himself, including those not from Poland.

I've rented it this year, several months ago, and compared its analysis against my 16 core. Mine is faster and stronger, but these are just friendly observations not intended to start WWIII here. Take them for what you will.

So your great news above is about something you did several months ago?
Again: what's your Chessbase nickname?
I can see who's using the cluster.
Parent - - By titanium cranium (***) [us] Date 2013-06-08 13:12
I used the cluster from ~March 22-April 1: does it matter what the dates were? Has there been some development in the cluster such that its strength has improved significantly since then? If yes, then perhaps it will beat my machine and perhaps not. End of topic.

I have seen this game played at a faster time control (30mins + 0s). It was played to see if cluster engine (White) output can be duplicated with normal quad/hexa machines.

I also have a 16 core with Houdini 3, running @ 3.4 GHz with turbo.

This is not in any way a slight on Houdini - it's an incredible engine - but with 140 cores against 16 the Rybka Cluster is almost certainly stronger. A meaningful match would cost a fortune though.

> i'll take your word for it

Don't do that. We need a match. I just think the public one recently wasn't long enough to draw conclusions.

My own testing a while ago showed a more balanced tit-for-tat H3 v RC 64. I noticed a jump on my tactics suite when going from 64 to 140 cores so I'm speculating that the 140 core RC should edge H3 on 16 cores.

What is surely more interesting are the developments in the next 6 months:
- Houdini 4
- Ivy Bridge Xeons

That would beef Houdini up quite a bit. But I suppose the point of the cluster is you can always add another 100 cores so on it goes...
Parent - - By titanium cranium (***) [us] Date 2013-06-08 19:36
Has Hobart announced a date for H4?

I too am waiting on the Ivy Bridge. In the meantime, I will test a 32-core setup next month simply to see how much faster/better it might be.

PayPal account indicates we bought and used 1000 ducats on the cluster, which at say 2.25/min is approx. 7 hours of usage, which means I can't afford long matches there. Nevertheless, a bunch of 40/40 would be interesting but I'm sure the cluster would win.

I think I read somewhere he's aiming to release by the end of the year.

Actually for most people there is no point to the cluster.  Unfortunately.

Rybka 5 (doubtful)  or Houdini 4 are MUCH more interesting.

BTW Today the December version of the CSVN magazine was released and it features an interview with Lukas, a big part (of the not that big interview) is about the cluster. Wonder if it's a coincidence this post and the magazine are released simultaneous.

Vas, I was wondering about something. I'm sure you have done a lot of planning before making a jump like this. I've talk to GM-class players(friends of my). It seem you maybe offering this to the elite players. I can maybe see how this could help them in some ways. I'm sure there are other sources for you that we wouldn't know about. It's a major project and I hope it can work for you.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2010-12-30 21:36
some correspondence chess players may also want to rent it. and appearing with the cluster in the engine room may also be some fun ;)

makes no difference, capitalist democracy is a centralised swindling machine. as true as when Orwell wrote it in Homage To Catalonia, 1938

I support Vas in his endeavours, He has to try something new and he will find out if it works. It will boil down to supply and demand that will work out the price.I have given up on using the best desk-top chess engines years ago so have stayed out of the arms race.Computer chess is so far advanced now that I can't really keep up with all the information that there is.So what if the line my opponent plays is proven to lose, all I know is that it takes a 3200 elo entity to show it.

felix, It would make Freestyle's an interesting concept. Considering the prize $$ involved I would think Vas's cluster will be very busy during that time. Infact I bet it's completely off limits  during that time due to Vas's own interests i.e.  entry of all cores :)

What would be the point of hire of the rybka cluster during a freestyle the cost would outway the prize fund so if u want to spend thousands of dollars to try and win a tour with all the cost heading your way then go ahead

no sense.......no feeling.....
