Infinitely more interesting and convenient to post the pgn. Assuming my gui has no issue with a 550 move game.

You can check your GUI on a mate in 545 moves.

How exactly do you compose such mates?
Parent - - By Lutz Neweklowsky (*) [de] Date 2010-11-21 16:19
... after the rules of mathematics:cool: ... I´m technican for mechanical and electrial engineering at EnBW ( Karlsruhe , Germany ) a daughter of EDF ( Paris , France ) and improve the oldest worldrecord in sport at all in 2001 ( chess is sport - have a look at olympiads ) holding by the hungarian technican for electrial engineering O.T.BLATHY from Budapest ( Hungary ) since the year 1889 ( have a look at wikipedia in english under "chessproblem" or wikipedia in czech under "Neweklowsky" ).  BLATHY was the INVENTOR of the TRANSFORMER with two other inventors.

Dadi,

Thanks for the diagram.

Lutz,

Congratulations.

To all,

What is the state of 7 man tablebases.  I only use the complete 5 men set, as I don't have enough Ram to load the 6 men set.  The complete 6 men set is available and it is possible to build a system with enough ram and storage space to load it.  It appears that some 7 men tablebase positions exist, as Lutz proves his mate after reaching this position:

8/3r3n/8/8/5k2/3K4/7N/3b3Q w - - 0 6

The previous record, also proved with 7 men tablebases, starts form this position:

8/1r6/8/6n1/5k2/1b6/3K3N/7Q b - - 0 0

How does Lutz have access to 7 men tablebases to prove his record?  Who else has access to them?  What is the current state of 7 men tablebases?  Is the complete set somewhere and in some form where it can be queried?

I was under the impression that they had been only partially completed.

How does everyone feel about these? I look at them from time to time, but they always appear as random shuffling to me. Is there an attempt at an annotation or explanation anywhere?

Of course I don't even get move 514 in this mate in 545 that was posted above:

k7/1b6/1Qn5/8/8/3N4/4K3/3r4 b - - 1026 514

Why is Rxd3 the move here?
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2010-11-29 15:27
I recall when Soren Riis claimed that some 6men tablebase wins were built by winning moves that didn't seem to make any sense, however, I was able to give him explanations of why they were the only winning moves, by comparing them with the results of non-winning moves, and the result was satisfactory.

I claim it's not random shuffling and an explanation can be easily found by following the lines (I could do it if there were 7men tablebases online, heh).

... to all friends of the 50 move rule :

The longest mate was composed by Lutz Neweklowsky ( after Babson and Petrovic ) - mate in 272
A little bit different to the position of Petrovic with mate in 271 : put only his white bishop from h1 to g2 and his black pawn from d4 to d5 ) and so the first move is following : 1.Bh1!  d4!

... to all friends of problems WITHOUT the 50 move rule :
The longest mate was also composed by Lutz Neweklowsky - mate in 550

How in the world did anyone figure out that this is a mate in 550?? I can't believe it...
- By Lutz Neweklowsky (*) [de] Date 2011-10-16 13:48
Dear chessfriends ,
after 112 years the oldest worldrecord in the history of sport ( longest mate without obstrusive units by O.T.BLATHY - 1889 - mate in 257) was broken in 2001 by my composition with mate in 267 , which you can find in the english wikipedia under the word "NEWEKLOWSKY" . The worldrecord was only possible to compose with the help of the longest mate from the 6-pieces-endgame-tablebases , a mate in 262 . Can anyone find now a longer mate than my mate in 267 by :grin:ONLY USING:grin: the 6-pieces-endgame-tablebases ?
Kindly regards from Germany
