Well not a good start to lose because of a bug problem and of course Benjamin's great play. Was the bug problem the main reason for the loss?I have not gone over the game completely.

from Vas words:

the contempt caused bits inside a "big integer" to trickle down and completely throw off various values

This one isn't going to go in the best games collection. Maybe the next one will, though :)

I suggest you boys calm down a little bit.Maxing out contempt and the like probably isn't necessary.Just let her do her thing.Lets hope for a good match.

Sounds like Vas needs a bit bucket to keep the bits from spilling out on the floor...

Is this perhaps what happened?:

White plays Ng5, seeing that as possibly the best move, and after black castles, sees that the soon it will be "best" to retreat the knight, eventually leading possibly to a draw by repetition, and therefore deciding, due to oversized contempt, that it's best to do the "exchange sacrifice"?

Sorry, this is all nonsense. The bug was such that the program simply played nonsense chess like a beginner when contempt was set; if we had continued the game Rybka would just have given away her pieces. Now everything is normal.

I see, so it didn't really have anything to do with contempt being set too high--it was something strange in that particular version that had to do with contempt being set at all?  Anyway, it's good that it's fixed now; good luck with the future games.

The bug was not "the main reason" for the loss; it was the only reason. We just resigned as it was obvious that the bug would cause ridiculous play.

Is it just me or... I'm now online following the 2nd game and again I have the impression this 'anti-human/draw' changes made to Rybka are backfiring. I already had that impression with the Ehlvest games, but now it seems to be even worse. Somehow I think a 'normal' 2.3.2a Rybka would play better moves (even against a strong human).

I didn't feel that Rybka played poorly in the second game. She took a repetition because she was still a pawn down with only slight compensation.

I was not really referring to the repetition but by moves earlier in the game. I'm not at my 'chess PC' so I unfortunately can't give you some examples right now, but I saw some differences in moves my 2.3.2a would have made and the ones the Benjamin-tuned-Rybka made in the game. Somehow the moves from 2.3.2a looked better to me.

I have to say my computer is slower then the overclocked quad you used, so maybe I/my rybka missed some deeper refutations. Sorry I don't have an example at hand, my post is a bit useless this way (a feeling i.s.o 'hard' facts).
