I finally got Windows 7 Home Premium set up. This was supposed to be the Holy Grail for optimizing Rybka 4 vs. use in Windows XP Pro x64. I have not yet overclocked my Intel i7 930 CPU with a stock speed of 2.80 GHz. Hash size is 6.0 GB out of 12.0 GB on the system.
In the latter operating system, I could not use the Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64 engine but can use it in Windows 7.
I also spent some time in Windows 7 so that I could use Large Pages in Rybka, following Nick's guidance. I was able to use ntrights.exe to turn on SeLockMemoryPrivilege.
(By the way, how do I know if I am actually using Large Pages?)

Imagine my double disappointment when
1) The SSE42 engine was much slower than the Deep Rybka 4 x64 engine in a R ending vs. Deep Rybka 4 x64 with the default engine parameters. Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64: (132 Kn/s) vs. Deep Rybka 4 x64 (607 Kn/s).

2) I then tested engine speed with the recommended engine parameters. I checked 3 parameters: "Always Score Main Move"; "Display Upperbound"; "Use Large Pages".  Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64: (172 Kn/s) vs. Deep Rybka 4 x64 (613 Kn/s).

Therefore, should I forget about using the SSE42 Engine? The evaluations of the two engines were fairly close. After 2 minutes, Deep Rybka 4 x64 reached a depth of 29 ply; Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64 reached a depth of 27 ply.

I would also appreciate from you experts the latest recommended settings for the engine parameters and hash.
                                   Thanks, CMA

Did you also Tick Log and Large pages in the Rybka parameters, if so then the log file will be in the same folder as the Rybka engine, you can open this file with notepad and it will tell if large pages are being used.

The odd thing about the log file is that at the beginning it says "No Large Pages, user choice"; then further down, it says "Using Large Pages".
So it seems I am using Large Pages.
What do you think of the other parameter settings, including the Hash parameters?
Also, what about the SSE42 engine?
                    Thanks, CMA

Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64: (132 Kn/s) vs. Deep Rybka 4 x64 (607 Kn/s).

The 132 Kn/s doesn't look right. It should be a lot closer than that.

Keok: you were right.  I tested  again today. After 26 minutes, I got these results for a typical middlegame position:
   Deep Rybka 4 x64:  375 Kn/s;  ply d=24;  Eval. .89
   Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64:  367 Kn/s;  ply d= 24;  Eval. 1.03

Why is Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64 supposed to be the preferred engine?
