Sjeng lost to Crafty?!
Parent - - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) [us] Date 2010-07-19 05:40
Rybka has had trouble with Crafty lately, too--I think there are two draws in the last four games against the Crafty cluster.
Parent - By 8lrr8 (***) Date 2010-07-20 17:56
maybe crafty is set to negative contempt?

ChessThinker played really big tournament - he drew only with Rybka and Crafty and now is winning with baron (and he was about -1 after book!)

Thanks for posting the game(s). It's unfortunate it's played on ICC and guest accounts can't watch.
So while I was planning to be online to watch I'll rely instead on your game updates :)

We now play Crafty - we've got the white pieces.

Good luck vs. Crafty! looking forward to your update - too bad I can't watch it live on ICC :(

Yesterday was a horrible day.
2 hours before I had to log in I found that my computers didn't get ips from the router. I made a second connection from router to switch to make sure it wasn't the cable. Didn't work. I replaced the router (I've got 3 spare routers). The computers got ips now, but of course not the ones I wanted them to get. I tried to configure the router - but couldn't access it. I tried all 3 spare routers without success. My last try was to use the old router, but only with one new cable. That finally worked.
The second event was even worse.
During the game against Sjeng suddenly the fuse of my room blew. Usually this is no problem as I've got 2 UPSs. But the blown fuse was caused by one of my computers - a power supply died causing a short-circuit. The fuse of that power supply blew, but before it did half of my computers and my modem had no power for a very short time. This only caused one computer to reboot, the others still worked. But my internet connection was gone. It took me 3 tries to reconnect which caused a discussion whether my game should be forfeit. Some people demanded this but GCP didn't. At that time the draw was already inevitable, so this event had no effect on the result of the game.

Today started much better. I replaced the defective power supply and found out that it hadn't killed the rest of the computer - which sometimes happens when a PSU dies.

p.s. 3 rounds today, but there might be a playoff between us and Thinker
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2010-07-18 10:52
I also had a defect power supply once, but it also didn't destroy other components. What was much worse was a defect harddisk that destroyed the mainboard when connected to a PC :) I've never seen that again, but it was really tricky apparently. It couldn't destroy good mainboards though, at that time EPOX was the top mainboard manufacturer and the mainboard just switched off and nothing bad happened. but the other mainboard was dead.

Now that is a serious misunderstanding.

The reason why there was no claim was that I was told you disconnected 2 times (and I had hence no ground to claim the forfeit).
I do not give presents in serious competitions and I don't expect any to be given, either.

I read that as ONE disconnect, with 3 attempts to re-connect. Heck this is a minefield....

Exactly. Three tries to reconnect is not the same as three disconnects. In any case, a protest should have occured during the game, not one day after it. IMO there is no way the TD can overrule his decision right now. That would be the same as the FIFA overruling the referees in the worldcup, after a game is over.

'I read in the newspaper that Iniesta was 100% sure he was offside when scoring the winning 1-0 in the FIFA worldcup final. So I want the rules to be followed, the goal not given because of offside and restart the match at 0-0'. Bert van Marwijk.

The discussion did happen during the game, Jeroen. The TD ruled that there were only 2 disconnects and for me that is the end of it.

Lukas' post makes it look like I gave the Rybka team a present. I want to make it clear I did not. (I didn't even have the opportunity )

Lukas' post makes it look like I gave the Rybka team a present.

Why? Lukas is talking about 3 tries to reconnect. Not about 3 disconnects. So where is the present?

...caused a discussion whether my game should be forfeit. Some people demanded this but GCP didn't.

Well, I thought you would have done this ... :)

I'll get you chocolate and beer, but points during a tournament, no f* way :)

I'll take the beer, Felix can have the chocolate!

It didn't look like a present. But Suj said something like let the TD decide. He didn't cry "I've won - Rybka is forfeit" or anything like that.

I'm glad you disconnected twice rather than three times so it didn't affect the game, but you gotta follow the rules. There is no provision for changing results of games based on player agreements, nor should there be. The TD should be following the rules and should not be open to amendments based on player agreements. If Rybka had disconnected three times and been given a draw because the TD was misguided or the opponent was a nice guy, I would have expected protests from other competitors in the tournament.

Ouch!

Does your team manager know FIFA regulations?
It may happen only after a technical error, not a judgement error.

Moreover, if objective proofs (such as television replays) are irrelevant, as in the case of Rosetti's error,  players' opinions are even more irrelevant, because of their partial view and position evaluation.

I must say I'm astonished by that comment.
