Hi,

I was wondering if there were any experienced Polyglot users out there who use it to compile opening books and who might be able to help me please? I have been trying to create small books from hand picked games but have been noticing that positions are missing and indeed whole games are missing from the resulting opening books. At all times I have been careful to use the "-min-game 1" parameter so that games will not be ignored simply because there are less then three of them.

Below is the contents of a test PGN file I have been using to test Polyglot:

[Event "Novy Vremya tourney-4 1899-1900"]
[Site "corr"]
[Date "1899.??.??"]
[Round "?"]
[White "Chigorin, Mikhail Ivanovich"]
[Black "Tabunshchikov, Vasily Ivanovich"]
[Result "1-0"]
[ECO "C37"]
[EventDate "1899.??.??"]
[EventType "corr"]
[Source "ChessBase"]

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 g5 4. Bc4 g4 5. O-O gxf3 6. Qxf3 Qf6 7. d3 Bc5+ 8.
Kh1 Nc6 9. Nc3 Nge7 10. Bxf4 d6 11. Nb5 Bb6 12. Qg3 Qg6 1-0

[Event "USA-USSR tele-match"]
[Site "?"]
[Date "1955.??.??"]
[Round "?"]
[White "Byrne, Robert (GM"]
[Black "Keres, Paul (EST)"]
[Result "0-1"]
[ECO "C39"]
[EventDate "1955.??.??"]
[EventType "corr"]
[Source "ChessBase"]

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 g5 4. h4 g4 5. Ne5 Nf6 6. Bc4 d5 7. exd5 Bg7 8. d4
Nh5 9. O-O Qxh4 10. Qe1 Qxe1 11. Rxe1 O-O 12. Nc3 Nd7 0-1

I was trying to compile the above PGNs using the following line command:

polyglot make-book -pgn test.pgn -bin test.bin -min-game 1 -uniform

but when I try out this test book, the book only goes to the 7th ply of the first game and does not even have the second game at all. When Polyglot compiles, it says there are 48 records, but then filters them down to 24 records (which does not make sense either). I tried varying the parameters, adding the "-max-ply 24" command and even "-max-ply 200". I also tried it without the "-uniform" parameter and also tried having three versions of each game in another test PGN file and then removing the "-min game 1" parameter, knowing it would default to 3. Again, no luck.

If anyone can suggest as to what is happening here, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Look to SCID - Your book:
game 1 - book use only white move .... results 1:0
game 2 - book use only black move .... results 0:1

If all moves good, then database whitout results
(parameter "-min-score 0" won't help!)

My guess 6.d4 better than 6.Bc4 (game 2)
