If you look at the chess engine rating list Zap!Chess is very close in rating with Rybka. I suspect without evidence that Zap!Chess author may have decompiled Rybka and have taken some evaluations and search techniques since the author didn't have experience in chess programming in past and he is doing his Phd , he has left developing Zap!Chess since 2006 because he doesn't have time. How can a person in very less time create an engine which is in top 5 in rating list .
I think that you need time to decompile rybka so what you suggest is not possible for an author who has not time.
I do not believe in cospiracy theories but
If you suggest conspiracy theory then why not suggest that the real author of zappa is not anthony but his girlfriend who is not busy in anthony's phd and has a lot of time to work on zappa.

"I suspect without evidence......"
Phew!
This is nonsense since Zappa existed and was very strong before Rybka existed in the public....
Also i don't like the opinion that: "Oh that engine is close to strength to Rybka, so it HAS to be a clone/derivative of Rybka."
Other people are clever too so can create strong engines too....
Also Zap!Chess is not very close in rating with Rybka although it depends on what you mean with "very close"....
Latest 120/40 rating list by CEGT gives newest public Rybka a +115 ELO more than Zap!Chess Zanzibar. I don't think it has any meaning to call this very close.
1 Rybka 2.3.2a 64 2CPU : 3045 21 21 750 77.5 %
2 Rybka 2.3 64 2CPU : 2996 20 20 750 72.1 %
3 Rybka 2.1c 64 2CPU : 2994 21 21 750 71.9 %
4 Rybka 1.2f 64-bit : 2959 18 18 950 70.3 %
5 Zap!Chess Zanzibar 64 2CPU : 2930 17 17 900 62.6 %
6 Deep Fritz 10 2CPU : 2884 17 17 950 56.3 %

I can tell you with 100% certainty that Anthony didn't do this.

These conspiracy theorists have been watching too much CNN. :)
