That's a clever rule! :)

Oh, it's a downright devious one!  But I have seen one account that isn't on there anymore who's record is still up for Loser's chess, ironically used instead of tic-tac-toe in a very straight to video movie "War Games 2"!  But then I figured he's still on there but under a different handle....probably got bored of losing to everyone..or is it winning? lol, and getting challenges all the time.  Going to Rybka 4 settings class today.. :)  Have to know how to do this since the contempt factor is gone, going to be a challenge!  Of which I looking forward to doing with much enthusiasm, except for the "skool" part..lol.

~Best Regards,
   William

So much to read, So little mind....err, time.

I kind of agree.

Reading all these time control issues and other optimized defaults issues it seems a bit rushed.
R4 has been in progress for what, 2 years? 1+ week or beta testing seems very short.

With that said, I am eager to check out the final result!

I think people have been wondering what he has been doing for 2 years!

> Sometime ago I once watched a movie called 'god of gamblers', now in Vas I see one . Did you guys really test that thing properly? I just want to see the influx of "Rybka can't do this, Rybka can't do that" during the 1st month of it's release. I think the testing period was too short

The testers did a really great job, a lot of issues were fixed during the Beta testing. We used a subforum to communicate, this worked really well.

Of course, there are also some real-world constraints, that's life.

I'll be here answering all questions

Vas Question 1: What happened to R3+? It seems it would take 2 weeks for you to fix that. Can you imagine that some of us are very disappointed, also given that R4 seems a completely different beast?

Actually he hasn't officially said he won't release R3+.  Maybe he will release it tomorrow with R4.  I know, I know - I am an eternal optimist.

That would be a very sensible move, but Vas has to do it NOW,
i.e. before the adrenaline rush is superceded by an immense lazyness ;-)

He just said it now. Check below :)

Yes. :-(  Now all hope is lost.

Yes, I'm sorry - I missed that one. It's too late now, it doesn't make sense any more to take a detour for this.

Seems like ChessOK already delivers Rybka4 Aquarium? More and more users are popping up on playchess using Rybka 4. One stated it came from ChessOK.

Edit: Never mind

I'm having trouble reconciling my Nalimov 6 pieces with Rybka 4, have any tips for me? I use windows 7 64 bit and core i7 965, when I set up the tables folder in the GUI, the engine does not Home. Can you help?

USD 92.59 for a single engine is too expensive, i'll just wait a couple of days.... :)

You're probably trying to download Aquarium 3 content. Anyway, if you're looking for Aquarium update you should go here: http://chessok.com/?page_id=80

hi -  I have Asus laptop quad core (8threads) and deep rybka 4.  when I load rybka it loads using 8 cores and if I leave it that way 100% CPU usage is noted and core temp reaches 78  (shut off is 100) If i cut the software core to 4 It then uses 50 % and temps hover around 73 or 75 degrees.  without using programs the temp is around 23 degrees.   I guess my question is if it is bad to run rybka with software set at 8 cores although I only have 4  -- am I using that extra 50% resources for naught and getting no better analysis?   if so I must change the core usage each time I load rybka as I've tried saving views  but the core usage defaults to 8?

                                                 alangary --- first time user

                                                     thanks

Assign your rybka the 4 real cores and use the other 4 core to the other stuff in the comp. Using the 8 to rybka analysis does not produce benefits.
Parent - By Permanent Brain (*****) Date 2011-05-20 02:57
I assume you have the ChessBase version? There in the interface, you can add ("create") another Deep Rybka 4 UCI engine registration, using the same executable, but change the

Max CPUs

parameter to 4 during this engine registration (and add something to the Engine name, e.g 4t). Then use this engine instead, and it should always use max. 4 threads only. I hope this means that the 4 physical cores are used, automatically.

But I would consider to not even use all physical cores on a laptop, due to the temperature increase you describe. The performance gain from 3 to 4 is small Maybe it's "healthier" for your comp to use only 2 or 3 cores for long times of full load.

Hi Vasik!

Could you, please, let me know (or direct me to the source of info) what is the difference in between Rybka 4x64 and Rybka 4 960x64?

Kind regards,
Ivan

One is able to play Chess960 (AKA Fischer Random Chess), the other can't.

Many thanks, Uly!
