First of all well done Vas and everybody who organised this match. Thanks to Jaan Ehlvast for playing, he proved himself a great sportsman as well as player.

Vas why not release Rybka 'Ehlvast' as a  surprise bonus?

I'm not speaking for Vas but in my opinion it would create too much confusion seeing 2.3.2a was released recently. Also do you think you can release a Kasparov or Kramnik version without them wanting a big money payout as you are using their name? Why do you think an Ehlvest  version can be released for free?

corect me if am wrong but the version played vs GM Ehlvestwas the same version we all got with 2.3.2 a what do you mean a Ehlvest version

it was almost the same except some slight changes regarding contempt factor to avoid draws.

Well they don't own Rybka do they? What I meant was Vas could do what Mark Uniacke did a few years ago when he gave a Hiarcs Bareev engine free after the Hiarcs-Bareev match.

I also understood that the version Vas used was a special version, I may have been mistaken though.

I was right about Vas using a special version see http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=1613. Larry says "The Rybka version which will play in the match is a special private version."

Special version to the handicap match against Ehlvest, but not compared to the latest 2.3.2a version considering playing strength. I believe there is no increase in playing strength regarding this special private version and Rybka 2.3.2a.

There were a number of changes in the evaluation function between 2.3.2a and the Ehlvest version, but according to my testing the net result was insignificant, maybe a 1 Elo gain (too small to measure). However the new contempt definition is highly significant. It appears to significantly improve results against opponents (engine at least, presumably also human) rated a class or more below Rybka, but may be of little help against opponents within a class in strength.

If only for this feature, I (and many others too, I presume) would like to see the Rybka Ehlvest version released.

Rybka 'Ehlvast' is weaker than Rybka 'the world', actually.

Who cares?
Bluemax and Lee Ma Hong and others want to see their butts get kicked even harder than what 'the world' one is doing.
Maybe Pablo would get his butt kicked more too.

There just isn't enough extra value here to justify another release.

In general, I prefer numbers to names, so you won't ever see "Rybka Ehlvest" or "Rybka Mexico" or anything like that.

Are you silently confirming that finally there will be a match vs junior in Mexico ;)
Parent - - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) [hu] Date 2007-07-14 06:11
Not yet :) A->B does not mean ~A->~B :)

ok, so you are confirming that if you play a match against Junior in Mexico, you will commemorate this event by releasing version Rybka 12,000,001 :-)

Ok, you lost me here. Maybe my boolean algebra is just really rusty :)

Well, I am the only one that failed on mathemathics, I do not understand any of you. ;)

I suppose that negotiations are being held, but there is some problems. Which are they, money and sponsors, FIDE, Junior team?.

Can you provide us any details?
Parent - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) [hu] Date 2007-07-20 08:59
You'll just have to wait. At some point, we'll have a 'yes' (ie. a contract) or a 'no' (ie. end of discussions). So far it's neither.

We have about 12 million Mexican guests at the moment so the Rybka challenge version can be number twelve million and one.

Ok - I'm glad to see it wasn't an algebra problem :)
