Hi Turbo,

While I don't dispute what you saw in these positions, over a huge number of positions the move choice by Stockfish is significantly different to Rybka

Ponder hit stats

Also looking at head to head battles between Rybka and Stockfish each engine seems to have its preferences - I hope to post more on this later, time is the issue.

I have also been using Stockfish in parallel with Rybka 3 for analysis because it frequently picks different lines where there is no best move, or at least the engines can't agree on one.

Ponder hits stats themselves don't tell much--even the Forsaken engines can often have lower ponder hit percentages than, say, Loop and Fruit.  The question is whether there are some types of positions where the engines play exactly the same to a greater extent than other types of engines play in their most similar types of positions.  It's a complicated scenario.  As for the question many people ask of whether any Rybka code was used in Stockfish, I would guess that the answer is "no".  However, given the sudden surge upon release of the Forsaken engines, I think it would be silly to believe that ideas weren't used, perhaps quite substantially.

alphabet soup.

shouldn't Vas be giving us some updated information by now? 1st part of may ends tomorrow if they are to be equal "part"
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2010-05-09 20:58
This is not the case with the Rajlich calendar where May 2010 is about 200 days long...
Parent - - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) Date 2010-05-09 21:06
In that case, if we assume three roughly equal parts, we can look forward to Rybka 4 on the 67th of May.
Parent - - By Dragon Mist (****) Date 2010-05-09 22:14
LOL he never said anything about no three parts anyway.
Parent - By Geomusic (*****) Date 2010-05-09 22:29
Unless we are dealing on a logarithmic scale then perhaps 11:59pm on May 31th. LOL
Parent - By Geomusic (*****) Date 2010-05-09 22:26
67th of May. LOL, in that case today will last 158 Rajlich hours :)

Did he sign up a contract forcing him to give updates?

Anyway, with the Insider Info™ that I have I'd say May 24th or later.

If he is willing to have pleased customers of his Rybka he should give informations even if he never signed up a contract as you wrote.
I should be kind to my neighbour even if I didn't sign a contract.
How do you deal with your neighbour?

My neighbor doesn't ask for constant updates :yell:
Parent - By Milton (***) Date 2010-05-10 17:51
Then you should be glad I'm not your neighbor! :-)

may 24th is in the 1st part of the month ? ugh....
Parent - - By Vempele (Silver) Date 2010-05-10 11:59
Well, beta testing was supposed to start before the first part of the month...
Parent - - By Geomusic (*****) Date 2010-05-10 12:06
I think it's a little late for starting beta-testing LOL. Sounds to me like he froze the code already. if suppliers are quoting May 21st now

No, the code is being changed as we speak.

Heh, don't quote me on this, I'm assuming that we get two weeks of testing and that testing starts tomorrow, it's "May 25th or later" already :-P (though at least I have more reasons for this than the  random May 21st that has appeared).
Parent - - By Geomusic (*****) Date 2010-05-10 20:28
it was quoted by a german site. let me find.

24 points stronger than Rybka 2.3.1 on an Athlon 1200 MHz.

May 26th or later now :)

Well, you get my point...
Parent - - By Geomusic (*****) Date 2010-05-11 10:34
Vytron I think they must be keeping this beta-testing thing secret. How do you beta-test 2-weeks before release? These things are generally done months beforehand
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2010-05-11 10:52

> How do you beta-test 2-weeks before release?

That happened with Rybka 3, ask around.
Parent - By Geomusic (*****) Date 2010-05-11 11:14
sounds "fishy" :)
Parent - By oudheusa (*****) Date 2010-05-11 16:45
Who is beta testing, any members of this forum?
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2010-05-11 17:13
And how did that work out? :-D
Parent - By Uly (Gold) Date 2010-05-11 23:54
We got like 20 bugs, but only 3 of them were minor... I mean major...
Parent - - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) Date 2010-05-11 11:32
I think that the "months beforehand" is more like alpha testing, which would probably be more like between Vas, Iweta, and Lukas.
Parent - - By Geomusic (*****) Date 2010-05-11 16:47
ok so Anand won, tourney over!!! lets see some specs on Rybka 4, Vas!

Well this is about the 4th or 5th "release date" I have read the last couple of days. I will not holding my breath...
Parent - - By Geomusic (*****) Date 2010-05-15 06:17
funny they are putting out a release date whilest people are still beta testing that makes absolutely not sense whatsoever.
Parent - By Akbarfan (***) Date 2010-05-15 09:54
I agree with you.
unbelievable.
