Hi Sedat

Please provide the date and the condition for the next tour so that book authors can start preparing accordingly. 3/0,  5/0, 16/0.
I liked the idea of like Live telecast but I know thats possible only for small time controls like 3/0 or 5/0 or even less.

Waiting for response

Sunny

I've been preparing since the start of the Prize tournament.. :)

Very excited for the next tournament, but I imagine Sedat would like a break for a week to two.. :)
Parent - - By Sedat Canbaz (*****) [tr] Date 2010-03-12 16:41
For me it does not matter,it depends on the book author's opinion,so i need a rest 3-4 days, but i think the book authors will not be ready in such short time of period

But anyway my feelings says about the next tourney, let's increase the time control,e.g 16 min and then i wonder which opening book will be the real Monster ;-)?!

Regards,
Sedat

16+0? That's crazy, Sedat! :)

That would be ~25-30 minutes per game (assuming not all 16 minutes was used).. Let's say 25 minutes.. If you had 10 participants (and you probably will  have more than 10!), and 20 rounds, that's 900 games for a round-robin. That's ~16 days, not including letting your computer rest.

How about something unorthodox and new.. Maybe 6+2? I like the idea of adding time increments, as it rewards the book who has the longest opening (which usually means the most research). A 6+2 game with 100 moves (200 ply) ~12.5 minutes per game..

I still prefer 3+0 / 5+0 since that's the majority of games on Playchess, but I'm certainly open to new ideas!

in case of 16 min,the tournament type system can be Swiss or Round-Robin,but with less games of pairing,e.g with 2 rounds or max.4 rounds
(Note:we can use also QX9650@3.80GHz which is slightly slower than i7 920@4.0GHz)

In other words, the next SCCT book tour should be finished max in 2-3 days (i am feeling too tired in case of running 6-7 days in LIVE)

But if the mostly of the authors are against 16min,its ok we can run the  next tourney at 3 min or 5 min,no problem...

Best,
Sedat

Yes, maybe we should have a vote?

If you use the QX9650 do you have another PC for the webcam?
Parent - - By Sedat Canbaz (*****) [tr] Date 2010-03-12 17:22 Edited 2010-03-12 17:30
No...i don't have another webcam
(Note:normally that will not be possible to use 2nd camera, due to i use one same monitor for  both 2 pc (QX6700+QX9650)

Btw,to run both pc in LIVE,then i need to buy 1 extra monitor + 1 extra camera and then we will be able to watch the games in LIVE

But not recommended to use 2 cameras ,the reason my pc room will be look like a security room and there will be a possibility my wife to leave me out :)

Imagine a room where I have two servers running 24x7 and they hot and extremely noisy.  That's one of my bedrooms.  Any sane woman would have divorced me long ago.

I also prefer 3 minute or 5 minutes blitz game :)

All of the book work I do is for 3+0/5+0, as that's all I play on playchess. Of course I'll still participate if it's 16+0, but I'd have to start a new book for that, and it may not be very good at first. :)

It's not as big of a gap as you might think. I won one of Sedat's 16min tournaments with a book that was designed pretty much identically to a 3-5min book.

Welcome back Bobby :)

Hi Sunny! I usually take a break around winter time to enjoy watching American football and to play some video games on XBOX 360. I don't plan on making any books or doing much of anything computer chess related since to me it's all gone to shit(The death of Rybka and dime a dozen clones). I will be reading the forums though and maybe getting back into OTB chess in very small manner. Good to see you still around :)

16 minutes is an arbitrary time limit that is influenced by Playchess definitions of blitz and slow.  Playchess should not have anything to do with it.

I believe there is merit in extensive head-to-head competition.  I was thinking 8 or 10 games between each book in a round-robin instead of 20, and a time control of 5+1 or 7 or 8 minutes.

The key idea here is that this is a BOOK tournament, not an engine tournament.  In other words, what matters more than anything are 1) the book-exits each book achieves and 2) the relative time advantage each book achieves.  If you have long time controls then the outcome is much more influenced by engine analysis later in the game when both players are out of books, and it kind of defeats the whole idea of this being a book tournament.  (Though, of course, if everyone plays B90 again then Adriean will chop the field into little bits regardless!)

Sedat,

Do you have a general idea of when the next SCCT will be? 1-2 weeks, 1 month, etc..? I'm just curious. :)

What? Next tournament will be 16 min time control? Goood !!!  I don't like Flies without a head (3min.) tournament. I have book for 16 min. tournament.

2 book per autor?
1º) book 3/0
2º)  book 16/0
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2010-03-13 13:13
It is absolutely unacceptable for an author to enter two different books as then he could deliberately make one book weak and the other strong in a very specific line and score many easy wins.
Parent - By Vempele (Silver) [fi] Date 2010-03-13 13:39
How about two books that deviate before move x in all lines?
Parent - - By BrandonSi (***) [us] Date 2010-03-13 14:55
I agree, but I think the ideas was for two separate tournaments.. A 3+0 and 16+0, so the two would never meet in competition.

One prized and another free. What do you think?

If there is a new book tournament soon, now that even Nelson has entered the Battle-Field, I am planning to take part too.
I have just finished creating a new book called "Sick Panda". In this book I only imported my own games (around 8500) played on Playchess since 2009 (only wins when I had white, and only draws and 0-1 when I had black) and did a little manual tuning.
Like Nelson, I like to experiment, I want to see how such a book (it's a "bad copy" of my manual book, "Sikanda") would do.

Eros.

You should get points just for that name.. "Sick Panda"! Love it!
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2010-03-13 20:47
Somehow I feel confident you won't be playing B90 games exclusively!  I also expect you will do very well!
Parent - - By Auryn (***) [it] Date 2010-03-13 20:50
of course, B90 exclusively with both colors!
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2010-03-13 21:41
I hope you are being sarcastic.
Parent - - By Auryn (***) [it] Date 2010-03-13 22:38
what other opening can you expect from my imported games?
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2010-03-13 23:14
First of all, you expect us to believe your statements.  Major mistake.  Everything you say is not necessarily untrue, but it is deceptive in the larger scheme of things, as your PsyWar program is highly sophisticated.  I have learned that the best approach is to believe nothing you say and just take it as it comes (kind of the way we feel about Vas these days).
Parent - - By Auryn (***) [it] Date 2010-03-13 23:27
Being sincere is a mistake most of the times, I learned this too thanks to computer chess also.
I wish I could find the strenght in myself to lie at least sometimes, as I know that would give me many advantages, but I just can't find that skill in me. Maybe I lie without being aware of that, if you have that feeling about me. In this case I am happy, as I get advantages then without even knowing it! Or maybe it's because people think I bluff?
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2010-03-13 23:35
Just listen to this 64-square Machiavelli!  I have to laugh!  Eros, don't think I don't respect you.  You're good.  You're REALLY good.
Parent - - By Auryn (***) [it] Date 2010-03-13 23:43
Good! Your laughs confirm my thoughts :-P oh wait... you must be lying! I am confused now...
Parent - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2010-03-14 04:41
Just take it as it comes, like I do.  Let's continue to interact with respect and mutual mistrust and we'll both be on equal footing.
Parent - - By Auryn (***) [it] Date 2010-03-13 20:55
and btw, I don't expect to do well, as my played games have been played 99% of the time on slow computers and with any sort of engines, also every time control game is imported in the book, also the over 60 min ones, anyway I am a believer that long games can  work good also with blitz time controls.
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2010-03-13 21:43
You sound exactly like me before the last tournament.  I told Brandon very early in the contest that I expected 53% success.  What did I get?  53%.

If they are separate then there's no problem.  I meant one book to each author in one tournament.

10! min or 5
