Do you need to insert the DVD every time you want to use fritz 10 or 11 or 12??  I have heard that you do but that seems impractical.  That is one of the reasons I have avoided those programs.

Thanks!

Only once after installation.

normally you need the dvd only the first time you play with your engine ...

but sometimes, you need to validate again with the dvd when you install a new engine, or a new GUI , or when you use a cleaner programm for windows ( like CCleaner, GlaryUtilities etc )

You need to do it once. What I do is change the engine, eg. I change the engine to Crafty or Fritz 5, then to either Fritz 10 or 11 or 12 with the disc inserted. That's all, it won't bother to ask you to insert the disc again.

Thanks for all the replies!!  Now if I was going to get one Fritz engine for fun, what would you recommend.  I am leaning towards Fritz 11 but have heard that Fritz 10 was a fun attacking engine.  I am not considering getting Fritz for analysis but more for another fun opponent to play and train against.

Thanks again for the help!

Yeah, if you have a multicore machine go for Deep Fritz 10.1, DF11 has been reported to have lost its magic.

you had better supply the link for DF 10.1 as chessbase dont.sorry Vytron more work for you.

Wow, it costs 75 Euros O_o, I think that's overpriced for what is basically obsolete software (now being 2 versions old).

@tomgdrums: Please note that if you don't have a multiprocessor computer you'll be stuck with Fritz 10 that has a different playing style and not the king hunter that you're looking for.

Hey Vytron!

Thanks for the heads up!  Fortunately I do have a 2 core processor (2 cores will be enough right?) AND I found a brand new, unopened copy of Deep Fritz 10 for 13 bucks on Amazon (the US store)!  I am looking forward to playing against it.

First update it to 10.1, then tell us about your game :)

When it gets here how do I update it?  Will it update itself once I register it?

Unless I put it on low settings I am sure I will not win.  :)
