Hi friends

does anybody knows whether WinFinder is still better in finding tactical blows than Rybka 2.3.2? is it still a good tool?

o yes, Rybka winfinder is by far the best tactical version. All Rybka versions lack some kind of tactical skills, but compensate it mostly with very strong positional play. Version 2.2 and 2.3.2 play most vivid imo and 2.2 is definately the best tactical version of the "full" versions, second best to Rybka winfinder of course. I also noticed on the slower computers the tactics lack the most. I posted 2 examples somewhere else on this forum. The spanish openings show this pretty much.

hmm, I'm not so very convinced :-)
Winfinder is already somewhat older and rybka 2.3.2a has made quite some progress
since the earlier versions when Winfinder was recent.
But more importantly: it depends also on the engine parameter settings:
I use engines for analysis mostly, and I set the outlook to UltraOptimistic
(with, less importantly, constant time usage and higher contempt values).
FWIW, I ran a 331-game tournament, from which 253 games were decided,
between winfinder2.2 and UltraOptimistic Rybka 2.3.2a, with the following result:
(hash 128 MB per engine):
Blitz:1'+1"  0
1   Rybka 2.3.2a 32-bit                +82/-44/=127 57.51  145.5/253
2   Rybka WinFinder 2.2 32-bit      +44/-82/=127 42.49  107.5/253
This would indicate winfinder is 52 elo weaker than a certain absolute Elo value,
and 2.3.2a would be 52 elo stronger than that average absolute value.
I know 253 games isn't sufficient but still... according to me,
winfinder is of the same tactical strength as 2.3.2a in very/ultra optimistic mode!

Well, that Winfinder is relatively weak when used as a full engine, is evident and has been said by Vas himself when he released it. The question is if Winfinder would be able to find tactical blows which the recent Rybkas don't find. My experiences are mediocre at best. I used Winfinder for a while as secondary engine for my correspondence games. During this time I had several times the feeling that it's evaluations tend to be somewhat inferior and unreliable. Not even once did it find a blow which the recent Rybkas did not find. Even Loop 12 pulled that trick once, but not so Winfinder...
