the 1800 player was black?
Parent - By millo Date 2007-06-24 20:45
yes

One of the biggest changes in version 2.3.2 compared to earlier versions was a substantial reduction in the estimation of two minor pieces versus a rook. Version 2.3.2 estimates the move 9 position as only very slightly in White's favor, which I'm sure you would agree with. I'll bet you would not have won this game against 2.3.2.

This is not a play from a 1800 player! This is from a MUCH stronger player.
So this game is either came from a black player who played on GM level or from someone who is using the take back method along with seeing engine's evaluations.
And since you are saying that black is a 1800 player then i guess it's the second case here.... :-)

No way a 1800 player to perform such good moves for a long time(in all the game) and such a good plan, that is indicative of a 2400 or more ELO level. Not even in his best days a 1800 player, can play so flawlessly for such long time.

Internet's and forum's anonymity and nature, give the chance to anyone play the best game even Tal would never dream of! Just experiment a bit with the moves, take back 20-30 times and you have the best game that shows a 1600 player can win against the poor, but invincible computer that didn't had a chance against us the, poor, modest but clever 1600 ELO humans.....

I can think of a seemingly more likely scenario if this game was played over Playchess: he way playing against either a computer player or a centaur, but the very common Playchess bug crept in, showing a much lower rating.  You will notice that many of Rajlich's games in the Freestyle tourney show him to be rated 1800--it's a strange bug in Playchess that I don't completely understand.  When it occurs, it also sometimes doesn't display the name of the computer program that played if the player is a computer.

You didn't play an 1800-rated player--see my reply to George.

So you joined this forum just to claim your win. What a tiny personality.
Parent - By nuff (**) Date 2007-06-25 11:05
Unfortunately this sort of behaviour is to be expected from dunderheads who join the forum to post fake wins when they have taken back 100 times. Where is the pgn with the evaluations and time-stamps?
Parent - - By millo Date 2007-06-26 18:22
the point here is the false value 9.Kxf2 +0.5
and it wasn't me who won this game

Sorry. But that class of statements cause misunderstandings. Addressing one's PC as an I. So, your adversary was a 1800. An online game? He must be a cheater or a sandbagger. I vote for the first possibility.
Parent - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) Date 2007-06-27 02:43
If it was on the Playchess server, there is a third, very probable, possibility: that the rating was wrong.  This happens all the time in engine and centaur play.  You will notice many games in the Freestyle tourney by people with ratings supposedly around 1800.
