In an analysis of a position where the logical move was Q:b2 Rybka showed X:b2. It happened to me many months ago , and this is the second time. Did anyone see such an indication of a piece?

This happens in the Chessbase GUI if the commiunication between engine and GUI isn't ok, e.g. if you enter moves very quickly. It's no bug in Rybka.
I hope that's the problem you describe.

No - I use the shredder gui and the analysis took some hours. no moves were inputted.

I get the 'X' quite frequently, even without a particularly quick input. The GUI recovers after a second or two and proceeds to display the move correctly, but it's a bit unsettling at first. Apparently the bug isn't very serious, though.

in the past I had only seen this once in about 5 or more years,
now I see it occur more often and I think it is timing/performance related.
I suspect even Windows OS, which has to go "find" and display the piece
in a (figurine) font.  I can see it in infinite analysis, multiple PV.
I guess it can happen if the cpu is really occupied...?
