PLEASE may Rybka 4 NOT be rushed, if this means making it better. It doesn't bother me in the slightest, if things which were in mind for Rybka 5, will be already in Rybka 4. For this, I'll wait another 6 months ANY time.
If Rybka 4 will be about 80 elo more than R3, if it comes out soon, I would be the first to say, please spend another 6 months, if there are things to be done which would make it 120 elo more instead. Better than 80 elo now, and another 80 elo for Rybka 5, a year after.

This also goes for analysis functions, and other things, and clearing up of bugs etc.

If R4 is now 80 ELO stronger than R3, I am ready to buy it.
And if in 6 month the beta R5 is 40 ELO point stronger than R4, I am also ready to buy it.

Maybe I shouldn't say that to Vas or he will know how to optimize cash from me.  :-)

regards

OK, let's see how we can optimize this best.  How much would you be willing to pay to get every successive new version of Rybka that Vas puts out internally?  That's like a new Rybka every week.  Hmmm?  $1000 per year?  $2000?  What is your upper limit?

I hope you dont mind if I keep it for me or maybe Vas......

What would people be willing to pay to ensure that they're the only ones getting Rybka 4?

Maybe Vas should investigate.

1000.000.000.000.$

Oh, tell that to Vas, I'm sure he'll accept, and probably Rybka development would stop, or at least slow down, since Vas may have enough money to do stuff he couldn't do before :)

Not nearly that high. I don't think I would spend anything honestly.

i wouldnt either. ideally i would like to get a finished product every year, patched if need be. releasing engines annually makes sense to me, as there are always strength gains (if the author is coding & has not completely peaked) + GUI gains + theory gains. so an annual, say november release of some kind of standalone rybka chess partner program would be really cool. maybe in a couple years time.

Is e.g. monte carlo, expected to be a new way of greatly increasing playing stength of Rybka 4 and 5? (and if so, why not develope it quite alot already for R4? won't it be great tactically and positionally?)

uh rybka rushed?
Are you on glacier time? LOL

On that logic why not wait 5 years before putting R4 out that way you could have knowledge that would have been implimented within Rybka's 5-6-7-8-9 into Rybka 4 around Nov or Dec 2014. LOL and ad infinium....

And if you are offered then to wait again 6 months to get more strength and festures you'll wait again?
And if 6 months later again... and again...?

No, such a logic doesn't satify me.
I think it's time to see a good new Rybka. And I assume, if she is stable, she is good and strong!
And in the future I'll feel similar when I'm waiting for R5 (or a drastically starched F13 or S13 :-D )

It could be that he only works on it properly for about 6-12 weeks, before each new release.

(I also agree that being stable is of major importance).

I don't think that Rybka was being rushed during the year, but I'm afraid if it might be rushed at the last minute, and if that is the case, I want to say that they should work on it now, at high intensity, and to continue that way, and as long as they do this, I would prefer to wait a little more. But NOT under any circumstances, that he/they should think that there is any excusability in any more delay, if Ryba is not going to be well over 80 elo stronger. For this, the time is long up!

You ask why not wait 5 years and then make rybka 5,6,7,8,9, all into a great rybka 4?
Because, I (personally) would be very interested in something which is highly superior to Rybka 3, and that it should be in the quite near future, in time for when I'll have my new computer set-up, and will be able to get down to a bit more chess. But I'm affraid that if it is MUCH longer (like 5 years), then I may no longer have the time to stay interested in chess/computerchess, as my life will by then be far too full with other things.

Also, I'm helping Vas on how to make all rybka 3 owners want to buy rybka 4.
