which computer is used? the cluster?
Parent - - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-15 16:04
Yes, the cluster / 56 cores and a new Rybka cluster version.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2009-08-15 16:09
mmh, is Sjeng's hardware known?
Parent - - By Ray (****) Date 2009-08-15 16:19
I believe I saw on CCC that it is just a standard computer, not a cluster
Parent - - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-15 16:35
I asked Sjeng operator ( GCP? ), but he didn't answer - probably he didn't see my question as Rybka was giving heaps of output at that time.
Parent - - By chezzter (***) [in] Date 2009-08-15 16:44
he said he wont be available. and would leave it unattended.
Parent - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-15 16:45
OK, thanks.
Parent - By Ray (****) Date 2009-08-15 16:44
On CCC, GCP said

"I'm not able to attend so Deep Sjeng will run on a normal machine, not the cluster."
So maybe a quad or an octal
Parent - - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-15 17:31
I just talked to Erdo. He made the book for Sjeng. He didn't want to tell me much about Sjeng's hardware, but what he told me makes me believe they are using a cluster much bigger than mine.
Parent - - By yanquis1972 (****) [us] Date 2009-08-15 19:41
so GCP was lying?? i dont get that or why Erdo would not reveal the hardware being used.
Parent - - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-15 19:51
GCP does not lie. Erdo told me (in German - I translate it) their slowest computer is as fast as my fastest. This would also be true if they use only one Nehalem EP 2x W5580 computer.
Parent - - By GCP (***) [be] Date 2009-08-15 21:12
Deep Sjeng is running on 2 x W5580. The exact setup is in the finger notes.

There was not enough time to work on the clustering and I didn't trust to leave it running unattended the whole day. Maybe next time.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2009-08-15 21:27
seemed to be enough to draw against Rybka anyway, so.. :)
Parent - - By GCP (***) [be] Date 2009-08-15 21:29
I'll take a tested setup over a buggy one anyday :)
Parent - - By GCP (***) [be] Date 2009-08-16 19:13
After looking at the last game: I didn't say anything.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2009-08-16 19:23 Edited 2009-08-16 19:25
tested and buggy :)

(I just saw the end of the game, but I guess from your comment there was a bug earlier)
Parent - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) [pl] Date 2009-08-16 20:17
Speaking for myself, the choice is often between tested and buggy, and untested. I kind of prefer untested in those cases. :)

Vas

Note that such weird behaviour *always* happens in important tournament games, not in regular testing!
Parent - - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-16 08:39
Too bad you didn't have enough time.
Btw. I've attached a photo for you - please read the inscription ;)

Lukas

Why there is Two Deep sjeng Written? cant understand that?
Parent - - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-17 17:58
I ask myself: is there a correlation between the quality of that inscription and the quality of the set-up of that tournament?
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2009-08-17 18:07
Yes, it's somehow ironical that you got the trophy for the 8 core handicap tournament :) Vas told me in Mainz it is because this one was the bigger one :)
Parent - - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-17 19:09
Well, in all recent tournaments building computers took much less time than software testing and bug fixing. I build a normal 8 cores 2x Nehalem EP computer in less than an hour. Software setup costs 30 - 45 minutes per computer - but looking for a bug can cost many days and nights - as it did before WCCC. The cluster tests helped a lot to get Rybka WCCC version to work properly. Still you are right - it's kind of strange to get the trophy of a handicap tournament. Anyway - my children like it - the first thing they did was putting a sheet of paper in that horse's mouth on which they wrote "Papa ist Weltmeister" ;) :)

At least I didn't mean our setup :)

> Yes, the cluster / 56 cores and a new Rybka cluster version.

I see the Cluster has now 4 cores more, that means that you added a Quad. But, what improved in this new version?

Regards,
Gaмßito.

>I see the Cluster has now 4 cores more, that means that you added a Quad.

No - I removed a quad and replaced it by an 8 cores Nehalem EP computer.

>But, what improved in this new version?

Overall strength is better, mp tablebases bug is fixed. But we've got a timing problem - Rybka is playing much too fast. So we are not playing at full strength :(

Edit: Vas has fixed this and I'm currently testing it.

And please help, how do I observe the Rybka game as guest on ICC?
Parent - - By Dragon Mist (****) [hr] Date 2009-08-15 18:49
Got it. Rybka output seems weird, depths up and down. Cluster thing? Which is "true output"?
Parent - By yanquis1972 (****) [us] Date 2009-08-15 19:18
yeah, what is going on w/ the output here??
Parent - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2009-08-15 19:30
Always look for the best score from Rybka's point of view - that's the relevant score.
