For a GUI, there's no reason not to do this.  It's platform independent and will draw in more sales because of this.  Plus, the code is quicker to write.

It will mostly affect RAM, and not so much anything else.  There's no high end graphics involved, it's a fairly simple application.  Since you don't use all of your RAM for your engines(since it's a bad idea), your system can reserve a little bit for the GUI, no big deal.  I wouldn't expect to see any performance decrease as a result of the difference between say, Java and C++.
