Since we have a bit of time before the match starts I was wondering if people wanted to hedge their bets on the outcome of the Fritz - Junior match. If one of the programs impresses me I'll probably buy it since my chessbase subscription is running out soon anyway.

My prediction: Fritz wins scoring almost 60%.
Typical Fritz win = accurate play and superior control of the centre leading to a better endgame.
Typical Junior win = better judgement of an unbalanced position = king attack/better endgame.

what do you lot think?

first of all you are off topic :)  serious now:i dont think chessbase wants fritz domination and drop the junior
i bet for draw or small 0.5 point win for fritz the most.

Ah yes - This is the Rybka forum! oops.
I wonder if the match has already been tried out to see what they get?!

Fritz10 appears to be stronger than Junior10 on the rating lists but the Junior team always do something different in matches and tournaments. On the basis of tournaments/matches I would say Junior. On the basis of rating lists I would say Fritz. If you asked me what one should buy for Christmas/gift to a friend I would say Rybka.

:)

Interesting point about Christmas presents. If someone was new to Computer Chess would you really buy them Rybka? Or Hiarcs 11 for that matter?

For someone new to Computer Chess I would suggest a CB product and when they get used to that they can then think about UCI engines like Rybka or Hiarcs 11!?

really now ... one doesn't win a match by a half point. I guess you must mean that fritz will win the match 3.5-2.5

If I remember correctly Fritz and Junior have a similar strength so, I think that the difference will be given by the book.
In this respect the Junior's team has a strong player that could make the difference cooking some good anti-Fritz lines...
