That's pretty cool how you have the country flag of where people are from.

The forum looks pretty much German. ;o) (no problem for me, of course)

Good work, thanks to everyone who is helping.

Yes, it changes the language automatically. You can change it in the options.

You mean, because Í have "Germany" in my profile, I automatically get the German version? cool. :)

Looks great.

The user interface language depends on the Language setting in your options. Currently, only English and German are available.

When you view the forum before registering (or without logging in) the user interface language depends on the preferred language settings of your browser. Therefore, if you are browsing from Germany, it is likely that your browser settings pick German over English, so that's what you get (At least this is how previous versions worked, I hope that's still correct :)).

I am John, from SW Florida, USA and just recently recieved Rybka 2.1 as a gift from my wife.

I was surprised that it came with no actual "playing software" (GUI?) so I stumbled to the Arena download page and finally got the engine installed but I can't get the Opening Book to operate in Arena. Chances are I did something wrong since this is my first experience with chess software.

Any help would be appreciated.

For example, I would like the GUI to identify the Opening names and ECO codes during play. Also, I can't configure the Arena for two human players, unless I unload the engine entirely.

Something ain't right.

Hi John!

You can use the Rybka-books by Jeroen Noomen only with chessbase interfaces (fritz etc.). You can look for an old Fritz 8, it costs about 5-10 dollars but it's not easy to get it... Maybe you can get the Fritz 8 GUI by buying Shredder8/Junior8/... with the Fritz 8 GUI (ebay etc.). The new Fritz is quite expensive (you would pay for an engine you don't need).

For the Arena interface there's also an official book by Dr.Wael Deeb: (click on "Download Rybka v2.0 Rybka opening book for Arena").

Thanks for your prompt answer! Paying for a better GUI is probably the way to go. Will the other GUIs announe the OPenings and ECO codes like my OLD Chessmaster used to?

Arena can do this, too:

Download the eco-codes table in your language here: (Scroll down to "ECO Opening Classification") and unzip the files in your Arena folder.
Now the eco codes and the name of the opening will be displayed somwhere under the notation.

To stop the engine (for entering moves etc.) click on "edit" (under the game notation in the window with the arrows).

Arena is no bad GUI, but the commercial GUIs (Chess Assistant, Shredder, Fritz,...) have more features.

F.K. ........ thanks so much for the guidance ........ it's working fine now and I can replay my games and edit them as I please, creating and saving new lines, etc.

Hello Vas.
Thanks for the welcome. And what a great chess engine. Your kid is taking the place apart.
Hello to everyone else, as well. I'm learning a lot from your posts.
Best regards from California,
