I recently purchased a copy of Deep Rybka 2.3 UCI and Chess Openings 2007 multiprocessor version. I have a Dell Dimension 9200 computer, which is a computer with two microprocessors, each of which has a chip speed of more than 2 GHz. When running the Rybka 2.3 32-bit multiprocessor version on my computer using Deep Fritz 10's infinite analysis I get about 98 kN evaluated per second, whereas for the same position utilising Deep Fritz 10 I obtain a speed of about 2500+ kN evaluated per second, and consequently it takes much longer for Rybka to evaluate positions through to any depth one cares to choose. Is this normal, or have I done something wrong, or is there something that I need to tinker with/optimise?

There is no correlation between the Deep Fritz 10 kN and that of Rybka. It is like comparing apples and oranges. In addition, the depth of Fritz 10 and that of Rybka have no correlation as the programs selective searches are processing different variations out to different depths. In general, Rybka sees more on lower depths because it has more knowledge built into it. 100 kN sounds about right for your computer.

Yes, you cannot compare the nps for Deep Fritz to Rybka.  On my QX6700 my Rybka get a little over 500 knps sometimes going as high as 650 knps.  I am not so sure what your Dell should be getting since I don't know what processors they are.  Core 2 Duo's do extremely well with Rybka.

Hi,

Could you please tell me how many nps you get from the start position? And with which Rybka version?

Regards,
Gambitto.

~100kNps should be nomal result for 2 core 32 bit computing with Rybka 2.3
32bit P4HT@3.5GHz makes usually 60-70kNps
64bit core 2 duo E6600@2.4GHz makes usually between 250-300kNps

Ah yes ... I forgot to remember that there are other OS's than 64bit :)   Seriously though ... if you want to maximize performance for your Rybka engine ... run it in 64bit ... The difference is dramatic.
