Thanks!
We want to see a long match between Rybka and Hydra , when version 3.0 be ready at the end of this year. I know that Vas is perfectly prepared for a match like this.
Regards,
Gambitto.
The chess world needs this challenge.
From what source is that information?
Mike
Yes, It is very obvious that he wants it.
He is waiting the moment to prove their new Hydra against the strongest chess program in the world in a same way he did 3 years ago in Abu Dhabi, when Hydra played against Shredder.
The source is confidential, and I hope this challenge becomes public very soon.
Regards,
Gambitto.
Mike
We should wait a little more. Donninger wants it, and the chess world really requests it.
Regards,
Gambitto.
It won't happen unless the Hydra team wants it to. Unlike most potential matches for Rybka where it is very difficult to find a sponsor, the PAL group could sponser this match with no problem. I'm not sure about the interest level though. Neither Vas nor PAL has shown much ability in terms of promoting events.
Anyway, I think you are right that it won't happen, but only because Hydra isn't competitive.

Alan
And after Deep Blue defeated Kasparov and the shareholder values of IBM went up, that was all IBM wanted and so they refused another rematch.
So the game of chess is still clean, it´s the commercial part that deeply sucks.
Mike
I agree with your overall point, but I'm sure that Kasparov could have gotten a rematch if he hadn't acused IBM of cheating. Up until that point, IBM senior management was very happy with the publicity they were receiving and they really didn't care whether they won or lost (the Deep Blue team cared a lot of course). I believe this incident significantly reduced interest in sponsoring major chess events. When you think about it, savaging your sponsor is just plain stupid.

Alan
Well, one can do even worse: Let yourself mate in one and go home with 500.000 bucks...
Mike
It is only what you want to see.
I have no interest in a match between rybka and hydra.
I have no interest in hydra.
I see no reason to care about hydra when it is nothing that I can buy.
It may be more interesting to see a match between rybka3.0 and fruit3.0 or between rybka3.0 and another new commercial program.

The same thing happened with Deep Blue machine some years ago. It was not a program that it was sold to the public, but however in a 95% or more, an enormous majority wanted it, that it returned and play in human tournaments or against comercial programs.
As a good experiment, it would be very interesting to see if the wonderful Rybka has enough capacities to defend against Donninger bestial machine.
Regards,
Gambitto.
There will be an interest, sure, but I doubt that it will be a majority and I am sure that 95% is a huge exaggeration.
And it is being said that Hydra already got one defeat after another against Rybka in Playchess´ engine room.

>You can´t compare Fruit 3.0 (or 2.3?) with another new commercial program!
Certainly not. According to Ryan Benitez (co-programmer), it'll be free. Search the CCC for his post.
>My point about every chess engine being exciting is my way of saying please support other engines and buy your favorite commercial engines rather they are stronger than Fruit (or other free engines) or not.
Also,
>Some version of what has been Fruit should be available within the next few months if everything goes well.
Dann Corbit:
>I am pretty sure we will see new Fruit ripening and on our dinner tables.
And of course, for fans of monster hardware (again Dann Corbit):
>The SMP algorithms (if these are the ones chosen) will scale smoothly to over 1000 CPUs with very little SMP loss.
>So he could get one of those big supercomputer companies to put his program on it and the earth will shake, the sky will darken, and mothers will pull their children from the streets.
>None of the classic methods can hope to compete.
Ryan Benitez (co-programmer from what??) writes so much nonsens about soon coming new Fruit versions, that I don´t trust him anymore. Fabien have to tell.
>(co-programmer from what??)
From the Fruit team. No one has clarified his role on the team - that's why I didn't specify. If you don't trust him and Dann (who said he's been in contact with Fabien), then how come you think have any information even remotely reliable enough to be worth sharing?
>writes so much nonsens about soon coming new Fruit versions, that I don´t trust him anymore.
Of course, the nonsense you write about Fruit is much more trustworthy, seeing as it's based purely on personal opinion (unless you just forgot to mention your sources) instead of being directly connected to the real world.

Some version of what had been fruit does not have to be commercial fruit and remember that some version of rybka(rybka1.0beta) is also free to the public.

Or does correspondence chess mean, that you aren't allowed to use engines?
I personally prefer handycap matches, similar the one against ehlvest, but with improved conditions, like longer time control etc...
rybka is going to improve and if she is going to play well enough it will be impossible to improve her in correspondence games.
If rybka can plays perfect in a correspondence game then it will be impossible to get more than a draw against her.
Uri
But most important is to highlight weaknesses of the engines to improve it.
Handicap matches bring nothing IMO.
