Why is it that Rybka 2.3.2a 32-bit causes other programs to stop responding on my computer? I use an Intel Celeron CPU 2.80GHz, 504 MB of R.A.M.
I set the search depth to 10 and a hashtable of size 150 MB. After Rybka 2.3.2a 32-bit reaches a search depth of 10, it makes its move, but continues beyond the search depth of 10 even after making its move. I realize that when it continues beyond the set search depth, other programs begin to stop responding. Also, the CPU usage goes up to 100% when its in use. I use Fritz 11 too, but I don't have this problem with it.

I think that you need to set ponder off if you want rybka to search to fixed depth.

How do I get Rybka to stop pondering?
I do not know if this works with Fritz11 but with Fritz8 I simply
click on the engine window ,see engines parameters and uncheck permanent brain.

Thanks!
maybe you can try the cpu usage parameter, set it to 99,98,97,... until it gets better.
Thanks!
I set the CPU usage to 50, the other programs have started to run without any problems.

But you're severely weakening the engine, I think 95 should be ok.
Many applications, like word processors, email program etc., cause very small cpu load, only. Maybe 1%...3%. They don't need 50%. Something which does cause cpu load though, is video, or anything else where the cpu constantly has to do something. But if you enter a text, the cpu is idle most of the time.
