Hi All,
The Hiarcs vs. Rybka Forum Challenge will begin in early June. The moves will be officially posted on the Hiarcs site. Each site will have its "Secret Threads" into which their players must be officially "added" by the teams' captains (this is so that we don't have people on either team looking into the other team's secret thread). Ours is already set up in the Subforum known as "The Rybka Warriors" in the "Rybka Lounge" area of the Forum, just below "The Flip Side".
For those of you already on the team and possibly not paying attention in the Rybka Warriors subforum, and for those of you who are new, we will have a team meeting tomorrow at 12:00 PM GMT. Those of you who are paying attention in the Rybka Warriors subforum already know about this meeting; any questions regarding this should either be messaged to me or discussed in the meeting. Of course, attending the meeting is NOT required, but I think that doing so will be helpful for many people so that we can decide precisely how we will demolish the Hiarcs Forum Team.
If you wish to join our team and are not planning to join the Hiarcs Forum Team, then you should message me (if you have not already done so) so that I can add you to our team and you can participate in the discussions in our "secret room". (The room itself isn't secret, but the discussions that take place there (hopefully) are.)
Anyway, I'll hope to see lots of people in 17 hours!

What's the expected involvement for a team player? My OTB skills are pretty near nil, but I could probably lend some hardware for infinite analysis now and then.

While you are having your team meeting Steve will open the Hiarcs snack bar with free drinks for all. So there is a clear choice Turbo's meeting or free beer!
sending it through e-mail? :)
I will offer my restaurant as an alternative for the Rybka team. I know we only have one Michelin star, but I think we can give the Hiarcs snack bar a run for it's money....
Good luck :)
I'll do my best to help as time is available, at least to post some latest Rybka analysis.

Eros is cooking ours!
Is there any way to follow this game?
It's all in the first post.

I'll give you some of my medications and you will be eating "Virtual pasta" in a land where the chess pieces are as big as you and you'll be moving them around that big digital chess board in the cyber sky-

Now! How do you play this game!
Just so that everyone knows, Jeroen won the toss between himself and Harvey in Leiden, and thus we get the black pieces in the first game of the two-game match. The first game will start at 00:00 GMT on 1 June, i.e. about 30 1/2 hours from the point at which I post this message.
>Jeroen won the toss [...] and thus we get the black pieces in the first game of the two-game match
This reminds me of dorm football back in college. As captain, I managed to go undefeated in the coin-flip/roshambo one year (3-0), but it was irrelevant, as we always chose to defer to the second half. :)
I usually win at rock-paper-scissors. My opponent and I strangely usually tie on the first round, and then I choose the one that would have lost in the previous round.
I think one important thing you should know about the toss is that Jeroen had a very special coin that he brought all the way from Hungary.
Yes, I'm sure that being an opening book specialist and all, he performed tests on each of many coins where he tossed each one 10,000 times to figure out which would have the highest probability of landing on one particular side.
the Hiarcs team are so busy with other matters that it is quite possible they will forget to post their first move, and we will claim by FORFEIT.
i think that both sides should provide a list of there players at the start of the game and any new players during the game.
I was planning to do this, but thanks for reminding me. I don't think that the list should necessarily be updated every time someone joins, but it should be updated periodically.
I dont think anywhere in the rules it says we have to say who is in the team. Our 6 GM's want to remain secret. :)
Well, would you like to declare your members? If so, then we can both do so; if not, then I'm sure that Ivanchuk and Anand are quite fine remaining anonymous.
You may have 1 of those in your team but not the other ;-)
*sigh* Then I'm afraid we have a mole...
sorry gary do you wish me to mention you or not.a pm will suffice
what rules, this was a matter of politeness
i think i read somewhere on the Hiarcs forum that they would like to declare.. but i think it was to be just between the captains...
hiarcs has 46 mins to post there move, will it be e4 or c4.of course they could wait for 47 hours and 59 mins, and as most of their team have not got a clue as to what is happening, this is quite likely to happen
well they will need this time, now 48 hours 24 mins
let the trash talking begin, whilst our GMs destroy them.
i have heard on the grapevine that yor team is worn out trying to remember the words to your team song,Hiarcs headsmashers.
your ahead of us we have not voted on the words yet.
47 hours 52 mins

speaking from expreriance Dylan the Hiarcs captain tends to post moves at approx 0700 GMT hoping to catch everyone in the states fasat asleep.now as a lot of our team live in europe he is making a big mistake.
Oh, don't worry--pretty soon, our knights will be completely overrunning their position, and they will be stuck in their shadow. In other words, they will be...on the dark side of the horse.
Heh... ;-) . Crazy Horses :-)
Dark side of the Horse ? or the Dark Horse ? :)
or dark side of the power :-)
The match was over before it started Hiarcs wins 2-0
clearly
the evidence of this is that the Fishkas team Captain just hopped on board a slow boat to China

He Nick, where is your political correctness? Is there any resentment against sharks? :-)
