Due to a machine failure I had to make new torrents etc.

There is one site I am aware of with torrents but they are badly configured by somebody who does not understand much about how torrents and trackers work etc.

One my site I have uploaded a new torrent files with vast numbers of public trackers, the other site has one private tracker so PEX and DHT are disabledso if that tracker goes down the entire torrent dies with it. DHT is distributed hash table, which is the set of hash values for the parts. PEX is peer exchange. DHT and PEX are crucial for torrents to work properly with the highest possible speeds.

my torrents are designed to live in the cloud perpetually with full public deployment

5 pieces is available now, please seed it, I suggest using a secure torrent program called tribbler which has integrated proxys to block surveillance

6 pieces will be back once I get a new larger capacity hard disk, i have a dvd backup in a cake of almost 100 dvd disks

Nalimov 6-men is cumbersome and quite bulky in size. If you can afford 1-2 TB SSD then fine. It' usefulness in 2018 is quite limited. It can be used for checking soundness of composed endgame studies, mainly because many of them ignore 50-move ruler. Also Nalimov use different hash algorithm so it does not get stored in RAM during analysis. Today many have access to Lomonosov 7-piece egtb for 7-pieces or less. Nalimov 6-men can be used during search with Houdini 6.0 (Nalimov correction fix).

So Nalimov 6-men does have it's usefulness if you can afford SSD large enough. Meanwhile i'm awaiting 6-men dtm syzygy at approximately half the size.

The state information should be carried by the chess engine anyway (e.g. castle flags, half move clock).

Nalimov files (like Lomonosov files) play perfect chess.  Syzygy files only play winning chess.

Lomonosov access is over the net and so thousands of times slower.

I believe it should up up to the GUI to handle the rules as they change frequently. EGTB has only one thing in mind, is there a win.

May not be a legal win with this weeks FIDE fules, but 6 pieces has discovered mate in 546 moves legit.

The only drawback of Syzygy bases is that they do not contain the exact Distance to Mate information.

That is why I stick with the Edwards/Nalimov solution which achieves the Shannon idea of a perfect chess oracle

I choose 6-men syzygy over 5-men nalimov for analysis. If you can afford SSD that can fit whole 6-men nalimov then everything is fine.

last time i checked 2TB SSD prices were still more than I can afford

I upgraded TBGEN to make 43 and 52 and even 44 which is 8 pieces but the amount of memory and storage needed is stupendous

No need for exactly 2 TB

Anything between 1.2 - 1.5 TB is adequate. For example Intel 750 1.2tb.

Or alternatively Samsung T5 External SSD 1TB -> you can store remaining ~111 GB on other SSD available.

I saw 2TB SSD for $370 recently.  Price is finally starting to drop.
I bought 1TB a long time ago for 225 or so.  Then the price went up.  Just recently I saw 209 for 1 TB.

need a few GB for windows and arena etc

which is why 2TB is nominally the best size for a chess box

I was able to successfully generate syzygy 6-men using https://github.com/syzygy1/tb

Is there any such method to generate Nalimov 6-men (~1.2TB)? I prefer generating it myself than downloading and I have 2TB SSD. If yes, roughly how long it might take for a 16-core machine with 32GB RAM to generate?

Thanks

You'd better ask Ronald De Man. He is interested in generating dtm syzygy at approximately half the size of nalimov. But it appears he had to postpone the project. He is using 6-core sandybridge.

My educated guess is under 2 weeks time based on your hardware.

6 pieces EGTB are available and work as expected and using a SSD does the job well

I have several machines and I am now seeding EGTB from one of several laptops, there are lots of trackers so its easy to find my torrents in the cloud

EGTB may be off when the machine is sleeping but they come on and off as i use the machine. The torrent is does not use CPU time appreciably so it runs all the time.

tribler has the ability to make a custom channel so i created "Hardcore Computer Chess" so it is inside the torrent cloud

It would be interesting to know how Nalimov-6 performs on modern SSDs. I' don't have SSDs larger than 256 GB. Will appreciate if anyone using nalimov can do some test and compare it with syzygy.

Vegan: do you mean this website: http://oics.olympuschess.com/tracker/index.php

that is the site with the worse torrents on the planet, no public trackers, http seeds do not work as DHT and PEX are disabled and worse

I have a 480GB SSD on one of my laptops, which is also too small for 6 pieces
