Well, I just installed Stockfish 9 and already got my first crash. Not in Aquarium, I was running it in Chessbase 14 as a kibitzer. After about 20 minutes of usage, navigating back and forth thru the variation I was working on... bang an EXCEPTION error popped up. The funny thing is that Stockfish was still working... go figure that out. Why wouldn't it be stopped by Windows after it threw an exception?? Oh well, I stopped it, as I didn't trust it after that.
Is it an official released version?
On https://stockfishchess.org/download/ there still is only Stockfish 8.

Yes. Official release. And it is definitely faster than Stockfish 8 - no benchmarks done yet, but it feels at least 10% faster nps.
I have not used it much myself as yet, but it seems o.k so far
I sent you a P.M. about the other engine you were after.

Thanks Mist, I appreciate the PM. The new Stockfish 9 looks very promising... I note that the new EXE file for the version I use is slightly smaller than the Stockfish 8 EXE. So I think a lot of streamlining work must have been done. And it shows in the nps.... it may be worth the risk, so far I have started using it again, the lure of improved performance was too strong. And it is working! I think I just must be a little bit careful. I navigate thru critical lines A LOT when I am working and the excessive back and forth just caught the program a bit unprepared.
