In the Advanced Engine Options window of the IDeA engine there are 4 options under "Add infinite analyses to IDeA (if it is new)".
The last option is "Add analyses to IDeA tree and generate alternative tasks".
There is also another tree where we can store the IA results, and that is set to "Write results into tree: <default>, followed by Chang analyses depth.

I always keep the <default> value, because I believe the IDeA results are automatically written into the IDeA tree of the current project when I use the 4th option.

Question 1:
what is the use of that setting <default> ?

Question 2
Can someone explain the use of "Change analyses depth by: " ?

Hi Dadi:

I have read this documentation several times, but I am still unclear of when and how to properly use the "Change Analysis Depth".  I have it always set to 0 and don't really understand it well.  Maybe, since I use the same engine for most tasks nowadays, I don't really need to use it.  But I have been curious.

Engines may not report the same comparable depth. So if you think your engine is reporting unreasonably high depth numbers, you can change it here. But it is difficult to judge if depth numbers are wrong.

As the documentation has not changed much in 6/7 years, but the workings of Aq has in many ways, would it not be time for an update/re-write, or is everything 'as it once was' so to speak?

As you are one of the main 'testers' could you maybe say what (if any) is the major change to Aq 18 from 17, of course I understand we pay for the Lomonosov Endgame Tablebases in with our purchase.
