As always this thread is open to everyone. And of course this thread does not have to be the only thread dedicated to Christmas. I just want to make sure that there is one.

I sent out a Merry Christmas to Mr. Rajlich and family! I would like to extend to him the availability of accessing this thread - or start his own- which he may well want to do- to wish those of his Rybka Chess Community , his season's greeting, that is if he is so inclined.
I know his thoughts and wish to all would be greatly looked forward to and appreciatively received!

Merry Christmas to all members from me too.

Nice to read you and answering to you but in general I suffer here under a climate of censordship and Orwellian Control. Ok, I think at my age I know that topics or single words must be saved in fitting threads, pages and parts but to be able to participate as a human being all this moving into cellars and such crap which is basically a sort of patronizing by some wannabe superman awctors and that spoils it all. Ok, Americans and Brits who are part of the undemocratic political system in their countries might wonder what I am talking about. They would also oppose North Korea but that they themselves are suppressing freedom of thoughts and speech, that is unknown.
To be honest I visit the forum with my smartphone most of the time but then to give Chris a short note commentating on that device is very tiring. Another obstacle is the truth that I dont like to comment if I have similar opinions. I prefer opposing the unethical crap against Vas. In case of some news I would be interesred.
Meanwhile I show some contempt against our autistic baby puppy World Champion who won the title with unfair, impolite and unfriendly style. He is so primitive and will hopefully get no further attention by sponsors. I mean chess is still a gentleman's sport and not for infantile idiots. Now weeks after the event I understand what Anand said (he should have a girlfriend). I mean who wants to watch someone play who never lived on his own, who laughs when an opponents suffers under a defeat because of his age etc? A champion must represent a sort of human maturity. Also he's a liar. After a win he claimed he had set a little trap when Anand simply blundered. This is just childish. With such tricks a player isnt a champion but a crook. I prefer a lot how Nakamura is improving, so youngsters overall are able to behave despite their overload of energy.

Also I would like to wish a Good Christmas and New Year 2014 to Edward Snowden.

As soon as the journalists were able to work, everything that I had been trying to do was validated. Because, remember, I didn’t want to change society. I wanted to give society a chance to determine if it should change itself.”

Christ Climbed Down by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
there were no rootless Christmas trees
hung with candycanes and breakable stars
Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
there were no gilded Christmas trees
and no tinsel Christmas trees
and no tinfoil Christmas trees
and no pink plastic Christmas trees
and no gold Christmas trees
and no black Christmas trees
and no powderblue Christmas trees
hung with electric candles
and encircled by tin electric trains
and clever cornball relatives
Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
no intrepid Bible salesmen
covered the territory
in two-tone cadillacs
and where no Sears Roebuck crèches
complete with plastic babe in manger
arrived by parcel post
the babe by special delivery
and where no televised Wise Men
praised the Lord Calvert Whiskey
Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
no fat handshaking stranger
in a red flannel suit
and a fake white beard
went around passing himself off
as some sort of North Pole saint
crossing the desert to Bethlehem
Pennsylvania
in a Volkswagen sled
drawn by rollicking Adirondack reindeer
with German names
and bearing sacks of Humble Gifts
from Saks Fifth Avenue
for everybody’s imagined Christ child
Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
no Bing Crosby carolers
groaned of a tight Christmas
and where no Radio City angels
iceskated wingless
thru a winter wonderland
into a jinglebell heaven
daily at 8:30
with Midnight Mass matinees
Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and softly stole away into
some anonymous Mary’s womb again
where in the darkest night
of everybody’s anonymous soul
He awaits again
an unimaginable
and impossibly
Immaculate Reconception
the very craziest
of Second Comings

Merry Christmas to all !
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to All in this forum....

If I've personally missed sending out a Merry Christmas to anyone out there and a Happy Joyous New Year! I'll keep right on looking around to find you. And I'll know you when I see your handle.

Merry Christmas everyone. I'm going to Norfolk tomorrow morning for Christmas see you sometime in the new year.
Please accept without obligation, express or implied, these best wishes for an environmentally safe, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, and gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday as practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice (but with respect for the religious or secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or for their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all) and further for a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated onset of the generally accepted calendar year (including, but not limited to, the Christian calendar, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures). The preceding wishes are extended without regard to the race, creed, age, physical ability, religious faith or lack thereof, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference of the wishee(s). By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.
That's pretty good, but you need to include a severability clause!

I'm bound by the agreement not to change the original wording.

Merry Christmas to all members!

Wishing everyone a Happy Holidays!
btw. I guess the rybka discussion section should now be turned into a rybka greetings section.
Since I guess this will be majority of the post next year if there is still no relevant news about rybka, like this year.

A year later and I was right, and this topic didn't even leave page 1. Hopefully next year there will be more greetings, so we won't have 3 years in one page.

Well at least it is a little optimistic now 3 years in 2 pages, excluding the stickies, that will make it 5 years!
Now houdini has made a comeback after a long time, will 2017 be the year rybka comes back alive again?
I still remember vas planning to cripple his public engine and offer a stronger private version on a rental scheme on ridiculous prices and didn't foresee engines like houdini, stockfish, and komodo a threat to the top spot. Reading old threads like this: http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=13820 is comical nowadays unless he really pulls it off, but can it still be done? Maybe vasik is being a hermit on some sacred mountain somewhere and his second coming will bring a rental engine that plays perfect chess.

Not much can be said after Fritz 15. Perhaps in a certain sense it would have been better had Fritz 15 never materialized, and we were left with a Rybka myth looming like a mist above some remote Himalayan peak thought to harbor in its cave a subdued Vas cloaked in meditative Zen monk robs -contemplating the essence of his greatest software manifestation out of pure body mind and soul metaphysics! Contemplating: where is it and what would it be like!
Fritz 15 feels like rybka 4 with kns and name altered. Maybe the chessbase guys have rybka source long ago in some deal or contract and change the name to fritz and author to vas as a marketing gimmick as they usually do. There is no word from vas about it afaik, not even a post in this forum. So there is still that magical hermit/monk myth about him.
Maybe fritz 16 will be authored by houdart as the title "world's no.1 engine author" marketing gimmick can't be used on vas anymore as he is getting buried in oblivion and his legend is fading away in the sands of time. At this rate they might even use crafty as fritz, "world's no.1 engine author" to hyatt

it is not. I can tell you that Fritz 15 is a further developed version of Rybka 4 with major changes (otherwise it would be a rip-off). I exchanged emails with Vas when Fritz 15 was released.
Fritz 15, regardless of its advancements was not the expected Rybkaesque Phoenix that everyone expected to rise , resurrected, out of the ashes of a long hard Rybka fight that brought this forum into a relative apocalypse. That one can say beyond a shadow of a doubt rifted the forum into divisions. I'm not sure what Fritz 15 is, was - still trying to figure that one out!
sure, it wasn't. I guess that was the main reason why Vas didn't want to release it under the Rybka brand and decided to go for the Fritz thing.
No news of Fritz 16, presumably?
Chessbase did hint Vas was working on a Fritz 15.01??
no, no news. Didn't have any email contact with vas lately.
Why not?

time for speculations :-)
For sure Vas had certain rights over "Fritz" that he apparently had every right to claim as his own! But to exercise that right by programming a mediocre product as a come back from recluse (that some even touted to be a forced exile) not only unscored his divorce from his flagship chess engine Rybka but questioned his further ability to author/develop his swan song.
I guess when you have a family to feed you don't spend your working time with chess programming only :-)
> I guess when you have a family to feed you don't spend your working time with chess programming only
Especially considering it was closing in on five years ago since the " Rybka " incident and Vas put out the ( as you so quaintly put it) the "Fritz thing"!
If he was so dependent upon feeding his family, coming out with the "Fritz thing" after so many years was a poor way of making sure his family got the food put on the table.
If anything it showed that he shouldn't give up his day job and return to chess programming!
no, you don't understand me, I was talking about the difference between doing chess programming as fulltime job or doing other things as well. It's hard to make money with chess. and I assume he won't get rich with fritz :-)
There is no reason why he would have to continue programming computer chess engines as a career.
I didn't see that as even the issue. My point was simple.
If he was going to come out of the shadows Vas and this forum would have been better served if he had put his energy into developing a competitive Rybka Chess engine version.
Perhaps later if he wanted to cap things off put out a Fritz version since he does have a history with that chess engine as well.
Look, this is just my perspective. At this point it really is water under the bridge. It is obvious that Vas has moved on and so must we all.

Aside from any of this -have a productive 2017.
In addendum:
I would suggest Fritz to have been a great secondary project to that of a return to furthering at least once more -the Rybka chess engine line.

Best we move on! eh!
