Topic Rybka Support & Discussion / Rybka Discussion / Rybka 2.3.2a (download) does not run on Vista Home Premium
Several days I bought the download version of Rybka 2.3.2a for multiprocessor X64. I have a dual core 64-bit computer with multi-processor. After installing the programm my computer says that the Rybka-programm is not compatible with the Windows version running on my computer. I tried several things (patches) etc. but I did not succeed. Is there anyone who can help me? Nico van Mourik-Holland.
You have to run Windows XP x64 or Vista 64-bit version to run 64-bit Rybka version.
yep. I am running 64bit Vista Home Premium with Rybka 64 bit and have not had any issues.
The nice thing is, a license for Vista 32-bit is also valid for Vista 64-bit. You just need the right install disc.

1. Choose any edition that can be upgraded.
2. Choose any upgrade option.
3. Answer 'no' to "Do you have a Windows® Anytime Upgrade disc?".
4. Change System type to 64-bit and remove the upgrade, leaving you with just the disc.
5. Profit!
Edit: You'll probably be better off clicking Buy Now in the quick links here. Just in case it's not the same for every country.

I have unfortunately the same problem, but a little bit different.
I run with Windows Vista Premium SP1 32 bits on an Acer Aspire M5100 fitted with an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ ; Deep Fritz 10 run perfectly but when I try to active the UCI engine from Rybka v2.3.2a x64, the message is always "Engine: could not load"
On the other hand, the 32 bit version from Rybka can run without any problem.
Impossible to find the right way... Until here... But I keep hope :-)

You cannot run a 64 bit engine in a 32 bit Windows.
I saw so many messages already, from people who didn't know this (I didn't know it either, some years ago), that this is really the most important product info which should be written IN BIG RED LETTERS in any description of a 64 bit chess engine.

There should also be a disclaimer about nps. I predict in a few years ChessBase support will be getting lost of questions about why Fritz is so much "faster" than Rybka yet regularly loses to her anyway. :)
However, Deep fritz 10 is running well...
DF10 = 32 bit engine

Please learn to read. Your problem is the exact same one, as is the solution. From the second post of this thread:
>You have to run Windows XP x64 or Vista 64-bit version to run 64-bit Rybka version.
Or Windows Server 2008 (or 2003) x64.
Here's a guide. You just need the 64-bit install disk.

OK, I have understood. Thank you to all of you about your answers.
The BIG RED LETTERS are a very good idea :-)
Thank you for your tip Vempele, that's the link that all the guys like me need .

I think so. Meanwhile I saw, that the the product descripton at the purchase page at Rybkachess.com is quite clear about this, saying:
"Components:
- Rybka 2.3.2a UCI for 32 bit Windows
- Rybka 2.3.2a UCI for 64 bit Windows"
Unfortunately, less clear is the text at ChessOK:
"This CD includes:
• Rybka 2.3.2а UCI for 32 Bit and 64 Bit processors "
This could cause the same misunderstanding.
