Vas has made it clear (painfully,to me) that, everything else being equal,32-bit processing can't compete with 64-bit.
In fact,he told me this personally when I 1st bought Rybka last Spring.
Many members of this site have successfully switched to 64 -bits but through no lack of effort I've been unable to do so.
When I joined Rybka,I had an HP AMD Athlon 64x2 4400+ dual-core-2.2GHz  XP Professional desktop so I bought the
WinXP Pro x64 CD but failed to install it because,as HP explained to me, the motherboard wouldn't support it.
3 months ago I bought the Gateway FX530XT desktop quad-core QX6700 with WinXP Professional and, again, the
motherboard wouldn't support 64-bit.
Has anyone here obtained off-the-shelf 64-bit processing or have all the successes been achieved by way of building
your own computers? I'm referring now to native 64-bit as opposed to effecting it by way of the WinXP x64 CD or
through Vista.
Even though my Gateway quad-core came with a free upgrade to Vista, and at least one of the Vista Premium packages
supports 64-bit,the motherboard won't permit it.

David,

you can definitely get 64 bits running on your machines. You need to install the 64-bit OS (XP 64-bit is fine), and then install the drivers. The drivers may or may not come with your motherboard driver disks. If they don't, you will be able to find them on the internet. Just try googling around (and expect to spend in the worst case a couple of hours on it).

In the device manager, you can always see which devices are not yet properly installed (ie. don't have a driver).
